Hey,

just saw one replay on Mania Exchange for a map where the driver drifts for a brief time in a curve where one must maintain to steer and returns automatically in fs mode. This is "usually" not possible in canyon. The mini dirft changes dramatically the curve radius of the upcoming path. Besides this when he starts his mini drift, there is no break lights.
The replay explains it better than I could do it with words:

It's not a cheat, it is just a very very very very [...] very small break, which allows you not to drift. This is possible if you hold the break button for ~< 0.01 seconds. It's not really human, but with some tweaks possible... (even that I know one^^) If you have Valley, you will see the same effect on ValleyA2 for example

Yes just found the tweaks/software how to manage that...but imho not really conform with the Trackmania Philosophy that every player should be equal from pov technical possibilites that the game offers.
So the trick is not usable with standard controlling, that means for me not really honorable. Anyway.

This brake trick is - as kripke already pointed out - triggered by a very short tap on the brake. It works in both Canyon and Valley, but since the general speed is much lower in Valley compared to Canyon, this brake trick is more common in Valley. With a bit of practice (or usage of programmable/mechanical keyboards) it can be done quite easily, although it's obviously getting harder and harder to perform this brake trick without drifting at higher speeds (in Valley it's really hard to do at 300 kph+ imo). However, this trick is pointless in many cases so it's not really worth risking it.
