Skinning

Post by GuessWho »

Apologies if this has already been asked - i've haven't been on here in a while and have just been skimming the centralised news thing
Another one of the popular things on tm1 has been skinning cars - but now your having cars being damaged - how is this going to affect the skinnning? For example will skinned cars not be damaged? Because when skinned cars are different sizes etc then how do you decide what part of the car gets damaged?

Thanks for any responses

hello Guesswho,

welcome back on the forum.

Trackmania 2 will include an extra file to make custom car damage models. So it doesn't affect the visual damage if you paint your car, but if you want to customize the visual damage, you need to edit this new file.

I hope I could help you,

Sincerely

Max

I need to know! I have a nice Lamborghini Aventador I want to convert! 8-)

What about custom 3D models? Will a damage-file somehow be auto-generated? Or will we have to make one, too?

From the information we've got, modelers will have to create a new file -the damaged version- in the zip.
But we don't have really much more info about skinning/modeling.

Cars from Trackmania1 will import into TM2 but won't display damage. Damage will need to be created for a car if you want that feature. I'm not sure if scripting is involved as parts (hood, door and trunk) will eventually fly off if damage is great enough.
I'm not sure of the vertex limit. I never thought to ask that question of MrBob.
