[COMBO] Timers+PlaceHolders replace the picked-up items.

Hi,

Combo is a different mode from the others in SM, but its really awesome. Really high-paced with shoke-points at the weapon-pickups. It needs teamwork & insight... Lovely. :thumbsup:

The "Problem"
I occasionaly play Combo, but I dont know all maps by heart and thats crucial if you wanna win a match of combo. Before the map starts I run around the map so I learn the map & I try to remember the location of the items. ( I remember 50% )

Teams usualy always go for the same weapons cuz its part of their tactic.
Now sometimes I play an entire map without even seeing a specific weapon because
1. I dont know where it is or where it spawns
2. The enemy instantly picks it up so I cant "learn/see" where it is

The Solution
When you pick-up an item show a placeholder or that same item with a lower transparency including a timer.

Why?
1. I can learn the map while I play
2. I see the item-spawns ( see 1. )
3. Timers would be really helpful so u can concentrate on the actual game/shooting

The newest Quake Live patch bring timers for players and a lot of 'pros' leave the game.

What I would like to see are markers(weapon images) with distmax at the warm-up

MP4 - Countdown, Firefight
MP3 - Reduction, Overload, Flashpoint, Territory, SM Race, Escape
MP2 - Search & Destroy, Oscillation, Instagib

Dude... this update is 1day old? And ur already an expert? :D

I agree with kremsy on that one, timers would completely ruin the gameplay. An item base to know precisely where it will spawn would be great though :thumbsup:

So umm... no one yet has specifically said, what they'd think about having these features as a script setting.

Wouldn't that be the most elegant solution to this problem?

Im just a casual ComBo player... Sometimes I play a cup.
For me ,personally, I dont know where Items spawn & it sucks. Ofcourse I understand that if you play often you remember the item-locations. Duh :D

But this suggestion is not about pro vs casual. I dont think it would change the gameplay... Seriously.

A competitive player already knows the locations so why would he care if there was a placeholder? What would change for him? Absolutely nothing.

Its just "more welcoming and easier" for Elite players ( and others ) to quickly pick-up combo. The reason why I dont play combo more than once a month is because I dont know where the items are (and because of MP's low playerbase). It makes me feel bad & I play another game. Its essential for Combo to know Item locations.
