TAS-function

Post by -Zenit- »

Hi,

i watch alot of speedruns in different games. There is a category called "TAS", which means "Tool assisted speedrun". In simple you are "playing" the game frame by frame. You can control the inputs of every frame. You can play the map complelty "perfect". Ofc not online because the time is on the server. But offline.

imagine Nadeo would release such a feature.A completly new part of trackmania would creative:

You are able to drive maps perfectly when you invest alot of time. You can have perfect REPLAYS of any map. Always wonders which times are possible in this map?.

Competitions with "best TAS possible on XX".

A complelty new STYLE of Maps: PP (press perfect). A Map which is only playable when you have the perfect Inputs of the track. Knowing exactly in which frame you have to press Left/Right. Like ultra hard puzzle maps.

Betters "PF's". You can do more stunts, better stunts, complelty PERFECT stunts and totally different from todays PF's.

Maybe new Mediatracker features? Like a TAS block and you can load the Inputs of a GPS? or "earthquake effects" and you manipulate the inputs? Converting parts of a replay into inputs for a TAS block? You can have a perfect GPS for your track.

A new community can exist. I mean if there would be an ingame support, why shouldnt "good" TAS'er play trackmania? -> More players?

What do you think?

I like the idea of TAS runs! I remember a GTA Liberty City stories TA run when there was a ridiculously accurate filp, almost imposible to be pulled off by a human. So deffinely a lot of potential: http://youtu.be/19tn9y5lIPA?t=12m1s

However maps meant to be played with TAS only is something I won't really like. It would take too much effort to finish it and not worth it in the end. However a TAS on a regular FS map would be really great to see!

EDIT: Another example of TAS artwork: http://youtu.be/6yQNAING_rw?t=6m54s (watch the entire mission)

I don't see any benefits in having a TAS function in the game. Once people start using it, it'll probably require a whole new section on MX where you upload TAS-replays only - and also it would probably be abused in some way, even in competitive races.
