Re: ShootMania Storm Power Up!

Post by novationx »

This post was created the 1st of July. In the post it says "a grenade that we -have made-" So that means its finished :D! So why isnt it released in the game 4months later? ( ofc you will have some good reasons haha, im just impatient ) It would be cool that NADEO released some example-packs with every tool they create by the way:

a weapon-pack, a move-pack, a pose-pack. It would speed up the creation of user-made things drastically.

Also:

PLATFORM
I re-read your 1st post and it sounds like that "Platform" is the tutorial-mode for ShootMania?
I would like to say that I love the maps, the movement, the hud, but its not a tutorial.

--> Where does Platform explain the different possibilities/functions of each block? ( example: blue block = no jumping, faster reload. ) It does not even explain how to use your stamina... = the essence of ShootMania.
Maybe this can be explained more in the first levels of Platform, please? Also explain what a block can do when you meet it the first time. You could just stop the clock in Platform, show a pop-up or instructional video of the block and when the player closes the popup/video the timer & gameplay start again. EZ PZ.

--> Make Platform a pre-installed title when a player installs ShootMania + Let those big arrows point to it with the text "tutorials here"

-------

Would it be possible to give us a new post about "PowerUp!"? I know I sound impatient, but dont forget it has been 4 full months... so maybe it's time^^.

I thank you^^

PS: Please dont make it a more casual game. Casual players love esports too.

I'm very sorry, I have to tell you this, sir, but someone seems to have taken a huge, creamy, stinking dump into your head. As an expert on bullshit I advise you to open your eyes in order to let the fecal matter escape your brain.

But seriously, I would really like to have a conversation with you, if you really think, any of the Platform maps is not 90% crap.

The people involved wit hthat Titlepack need a darn tutorial to Shootmania for Christ's sake.

The maps look really nice indeed (apart from the very last map), that's not what I was referring to. I was talking the gameplay, the "movement".

And I really mean it when I say, I'd like to have a talk about that with you. It's important to me, that people really take a deeper look into the nature of this Title Pack. :D

I dont know what NADEO's goal is with Platform. Maybe its just move & pick-up items --> then they did a good job.

IF it's more meant to be a tutorial, then I would add new stuff ( as I said )... Im not saying I like Platform or it's gameplay. If I was a new player I would like some tutorials. Thats all ^^

1) Please Nadeo, can you answer my question ASAP ?Just tell me if you have created this grenade, and if not, if you plan to create it (then when?).

2) About platform, i've tested the very first day it has been released so i don't want to say something false about what it is now (i don't know if it has evolved but i guess so), but for me, the best tutorial ever for an ArenaFps is the single player of UT2k4 : You are in a league, you have to win few matches in differents mods against bots (which are pretty good) to be able to win this league (duel, CTF, TDM, and something like Speedball).
And before this league, a tutorial presents you the different movements possible, the different weapon (when and how to use the weapon), and the different mods (how to play it).
I think Platform should be able to do the same, at least the tutorial :
1 - How to use your stamina, to walljump, to microjump, to take a grapple, etc...
2 - Which weapons are available in SM
3 - Which special blocks are available in SM
4 - Presentation of Elite, Battle, Siege and Combo (how to play the mod+training against bots)
5 - Presentation of the different tools available on SM (action maker, map editor, title pack creator,...)

It's in my opinion the best to introduce the game to a new player (today, i was asking to Elite players with around 3k,4k wins if they already created a weapon, 90% of them told me they didn't even know it was possible)

+100 (including the Novationx's part where he told about the tutorial according to the Platform TP)
This game needs an ingame tutorial. Sometimes I still see players with a 2200 rank (!) not using their stamina at all. I adiviced them to use stamina but they didn't know what it exactly is. When they figured it out, they were totally amazed about the stamina. SM's movement is truely the most exciting gameplay feature - at least in my opinion.

Maniaplanet with its games and tools has soo much potential. Very often I dream of a bigger nadeo crew that would probably solve the most significant issues of Maniaplanet because nearly the halfth of the issues are caused by Nadeo's limited ressources (e.g. they haven't got much time to create an ingame tutorial although it is the essential part of any game, they haven't got much money to promote their game either by advertising or by providing money on their tournaments, etc.). Well, everyone is limited anyhow. As a Nadeo-member said with the embedding-objects limit, by having obstacles/limitations you become creative. In german you would say ''necessity is the mother of invention''. That's totally right. However, there isn't always an alternative solution... and that concerns me.

Sorry for getting off-topic in the second paragraph, it just came into my mind when I thought about the ingame tutorials ^.^

Regards,
Soprah

Edit: I just noticed that when I published this post here, the post was already 30min old. I might hitted the ''submit'' button instead of the ''preview'' button

I just find it ironic that the main draw of this game was supposed to be its simplicity, yet it is so counter intuitive/random that it actually results in being the complete opposite.
As a Nadeo-member said with the embedding-objects limit, by having obstacles/limitations you become creative.
In my opinion that is really completely wrong. Surely without the shackles and limitations, there would be a far bigger scope for creativity? The game has been around for like 2 and a half years now, people have pretty much pushed the mapeditor as far as it will go. The fact is you can only be creative within Nadeo's constraining limits - making ghostblocks/blockmixing an ingame tool (rather than a feature of a 3rd party map editor) was a good move, but at the same time it shows that the editor is still quite restrictive.

Like I said above regarding the game, the map editor is quite good and beginner friendly but the simplicity of it proves also to be its downfall. Make the possibility to remove all restrictions, make blocks fully rotatable 360 degrees etc and the possibilities would probably be endless. But still, I think the variety of blocks is too small. This game would really benefit from a really good block/texture/mesh creator.
