Ranking up in ShootMania

Post by novationx »

Hi there,
I have some questions about ranking up :/

ELITE
In Elite... Once you get 90k, you should play matchmaking to rank up any further. I don't like it but anyways... it works & it's logical.

JOUST
I havent ranked up at all the last 2 years altho I do play Joust now & then. There is absolutely no way to rank up...
Why does Joust have 100 number ones? Why? This mode is simply being ignored by the devs or what?

STORM
I'm rank 300 since 2013. I play Siege, I play Instagib, I play Obstacle, ...
My rank is unchanged since 2013.

Why o why?
Is this really the best ranking system we can produce?

Am I really the only one bothered with this? Every match 0.00 LP. Rank 300.

There is no fun in this ranking system ( outside maybe Elite. Elite is okay. ). It doesnt feel rewarding. There is no incentive to even care to rank up. Please fix this rankingsystem which will automatically result in more fun & competition amongst individual players.

Thank you very much.
The neverending waiting game has to stop.

If you wanna go hard in Storm, you'll have to play Battle. It'd the only mode allowed for 100k, since Siege and Royal got their own TPs.

For 90k, I'm not even sure anymore. There used to be a list somewhere in the forum for 100k, 90k, 80k and 70k, with all the modes allwed for each of those categories. Nadeo had put Speedball on the 70k list before it got its TP. But now I don't find the list anymore, so meh.

Even if every mode is allowed for 90k, it takes 80,000 Planets to upgrade a server to 90k. That might be another reason why the only modes to ever have had 90k servers were Battle and Siege. No one cares enough about InstaGib to gather the 80,000 Planets for a 90k server...

Things are complicated over here in Nadeoland. I wish they'd just remove the Ladder completely and find a completely different solution for Elite only.

Elite ranking is ok ? lol
Most boring ranking system i ever seen.... 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 nothing epic in this ranking. I'm sorry but when you see some rank 9 play like noob or generaly gold player this system suck.
Nothing epic in this no goal no achievement nothing to wait for it's just too simple and boring as fuck. Here you are just matched with ppl who is in MM with you because nobody play so without ppl to pick you can't make balance game.

All this system should be totaly rework imo.

The problem is that if Nadeo starts working towards a good ranking system it will just become a system that already exists in another game. This is the last thing that Nadeo would want because "If you want a ranking system like this you can go to _insert game_. You're a negative hater."

The ladder that is today is essentially just a leveling system and does not actually reflect skill. This system might work for casual game modes, but competitive game modes like elite should have a different ranking system added. Then both your precious casual players and the more competition driven people would be happier.

If you're gonna keep this system you might as well put skill trees, traits, and gear into the game so leveling up actually makes sense.

The ranking system for Elite works in theory...

But you're grading players individually in a team game, and the team's aggregate performance dictates that player's ladder point gain / losses, not his individual performance. The player's rank in theory represents their "skill" level, but this rank is decided by factors outwith the scope of individual skill.

See the problem?

Let's say you win a game, and finish +10/-7, One attack and 8 rocket hits. You win a bunch of ladder points for this.

Let's say you lose a game, and finish with +10/-7, One attack and 8 rocket hits. You will most likely lose a number of ladder points for this if you are >90k.

In both cases, your contribution to the team was the same. However, purely on the fact that one game was a win and one game was a loss, you either gain or lose ladder points. Ergo, your LP gains / losses are much more heavily influenced by team mates.

If you finish a game +0/-10, and your team still wins, even though you have contributed nothing, and have just been carried, you still don't lose points for being useless... There are no -LPs for beig carried, sadly.

Ladder points, as a measure of an individual's rank, whilst being 100% dependent on the team's performance is an inherently flawed system.

Regardless of whether I win or lose, the number of rocket hits and successful attacks I make should matter more when it comes to my "ladder rank" than whether or not I won or lost.

I recently played a game, myself + Mr. Lico + ech 7 dude vs Ghost + Bigzer + ech 7 dude. Lico and Ghost both had 1 attack. By the time bigzer got bored and left, I had 4 attacks and he had 4 attacks. Whilst my LP gain for being on the winning team (after Ghost + Bigzer got bored and left) was high, Bigzer would have only gained a very small amount of LP, despite having a very similar score, and despite playing extremely well all game.

I do like the idea of trying to "rank" players, but you simply cannot have an individual ranking system which awards / deducts points based around team performance - not - individual performance.

Well lets be honest here and NOT talk about negativity. This young man,Xenom, is totally right.
It's basically 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and voila, that's it. To me this sounds too simple and maybe boring. But okay... it's easy to understand and logical. So at least I can live with it.
But why should it stay so simple? Why can't it be cooler?
--> Top5 = Elite of Elite
--> A 10th echelon for players that get more than 100k LP. Currently this bugs. ( you hear the echelon-change-sound but you stay echelon 9. Where did black echelon 10 go? )
--> Achievements - Stats - ...
Make it a challenge to play! Make it more competitive! Make it more fun! Make it feel more rewarding!

And more importantly: why cant we rank up anywhere else? Why is matchmaking only 100K? Why not any other servers? What would be the reason to not have 100k public servers?

I couldnt see if you were being serious or not, but why is having the same ranking like another good game a bad thing?

Example: If everybody likes the ranking of GAME X, and multiple other games are using it too ( or something similar ) then why would it be bad to use the same ranking-system?

What about Joust? What's being done to Joust by NADEO? Why are there so much #1 players? Why cant I rank up?
Is it the community's fault because we're not donating planets?

Imo regardless of the community, the ranking should always work how it should work.
Ranking is an essential part of the game and it should not be in the hands of the community and its planets.

I recommend using a ranking-system not dependant on planets.

I don't see it either, but every time someone has mentioned a game like quake or ut the response is "Go play that game then". I don't see why it would be any different for the ranking system.

Not sure. You can do something good without make copy/past. Take good idea where they are mix & modify it :)
But yes nadeo politics block this... Anyway if somes games and good classement system use elo there is reason behind this. When you see official chess ladder use this system since long time with excellent result. It's sad to do something like this. Just because the game use lp since 5 years.

And yes i can be negative but i try to be honest and give my opinion as dumb player withtout knowledge. I was cool on my older post but nothing work so let's be negative because they don't want understand player frustration. Anyway i don't care anymore (little bit because i'm here to talk) :p
