Re: [POLL / FIX] player with bad connection=Lagg for all oth
At the start of SM, I had a 60 ko/s (kb/s) down and 10 ko/s up. I probably had a ping between 80 and 120 and got a snap over 100 (that where my name came from). This was easily playable, I don't know why have a snap over 100 is not good. If you go from 60 to 120 of snap because of a lagger, it's the same thing for other players and the lagger's snap is above that number (between 2 and 20 times over) and he can't play at all. I lived that a lot of time and it doesn't disturb me at all. In fact, it's an implement which must inspired the netcode of Battlefield or COD.

I usually play with 115-120 snap in matchmaking. My ping is usually 30-32. If my connection was the problem, I would expect my ping to be higher.novationx wrote:Hi,
Having snap over 75/80 results in a bad gaming experience.
In most games, high ping usually indicates a problem with your connection.
This is on a UK fibre optic connection. The problem here is exclusively nadeo's random "snapshot delta" and "net vision" stuff. I have no issues whatosever relating to lag in other games, and it's no coincidence that these games don't have a magical snapshot delta / net vision stat.
On the royal server I play (Hysteria Race, French server) I usually have the same ping of around 30 and the same snap of around 120. Because I'm not having to shoot railgun, the character models being desynced is less of a problem on royal than it is on MM. Even delayed rockets is not so big a deal, just shoot wider angles.
For me, 120 snap is "playable" because I'm used to it and I just work around it. Probably better if it wasn't so high, but the game is still playable.
Rockets take significantly longer to fire (there is a noticeable delay from clicking to actually seeing the rocket shoot). Sometimes rockets will fire twice. Initially the rock fires, when I click, then that rocket will "disappear" or "lag back in time", and shoot again.
Movement also stutters, and the game will sometimes force you to jump. No reason, you just all of a sudden find yourself off the ground.
Rockets which are shot to the left / right of you, if you just moved from that direction will still hit you also.
My connection is fine. I have no problems in any other games whatsoever. In Shootmania I have what you could call "high snap". Why? Good question. If Nadeo didn't invent "magic" stuff like snapshot in the first place it would have been a better game. Unreal Engine had tick rate. Which was completely server side, and completely independent from connection. From what I can gather on the actual definition of snapshot delta, it also should be 100% independent from connection. Apparently, this is not the case.novationx wrote:only players with a bad connection should be punished

Having netvision over 10 too.
That's the real point, because with a snap over 80 the game is just broke.
Has it ever been explained what "netvision" even does? I found a vague explanation about snapshot delta from hylis somewhere, but the explanation he provided, and the explanation of snapshot delta which I found online do not explain why snapshot delta f*cks with the game so much.

Would you even understand if he explained? I didnt study for this , so I have absolutely no idea how it works.
All I know is
- Its a bit better in other games
- In other games I can lagg as hard as I want and others wont rage. They see me warp , but their match vs other players is still normal
- I enjoy SM when snap is low.

Yes in obstacle , royal , ... there is a lot of people so the snap is pretty not see because of more people .
But in elite if someone lag the snap , make other player rage ^^ .
(i admit for me the snap is better than MP2 )
so
It is sure better to play with low ping ^^ , the problem is here the inconsitensy of the ''global '' ping in every game .
i think the snap and net vision , must be adapted for every mod (in elite like this , in royal like that ...) so that it can be better .

yes having 130 ping not a problem , for exemple if i go to america obstacle serv i can play because it is constant so you adapt without problem .Cuts wrote:For me, 120 snap is "playable" because I'm used to it and I just work around it.
so
not really if it is constant , but when someone is laging it is not , and that is the problem .novationx wrote:Having snap over 75/80 results in a bad gaming experience.

It's not going to be consistent from server to server so it still leads to a bad experience. High snap will lead to the hitbox staying behind the player when running. This in combination with the trilaser is a recipe for disaster. High snap might work for obstacle but is a pain in the cul for any mode that requires shooting other people.bervt wrote:not really if it is constant , but when someone is laging it is not , and that is the problem .novationx wrote:Having snap over 75/80 results in a bad gaming experience.

Something I dont understand ( and as I said before : I dont have any knowledge of this ): Why does there need to be snap in Obstacle. It's an individual mode. You shouldnt be affected by anyone else's connection.
Or am I missing the -bigger- picture?

Thats not true.
There are plenty of games without any form of lagg compensation. ( CS for example )
