Probably it is a outdated version, because with the current version, it looks like this:

You can registrer / activate your key later anyways.
This seems to have been the answer. I uninstalled whatever I had and downloaded from the link you provided. Then I could register and use the key I had been given when I bought the game.
All good and working as it should.

Thanks to everyone for good and fast answer.

...I do think it a bit weird that someone licenced to sell keys does not provide an updated version of the binaries. That was surprising, to say the least.

Normally the automatic updater should manage, perhaps it was a unlucky coincidence of different issues in your case.

Do you remember the exact location where you downloaded the outdated version initially?
Could you please post a link?
And which was your language on the Gamesplanet page?
