Game Closes Immediately After Launch

I just thought of another thing: Run the .exe as Administrator ... maybe worth a try.

I've completely uninstalled everything again, have uninstalled my antivirus software and have deactivated my Windows firewall. Installed newest GeForce drivers and restarted computer. Then did a fresh install of Maniaplanet (newest minimal install EXE). At the end of installation I choose "start the game". The game starts fine. I close the game. Try to open it again ... the window just closes after I hit the "Play" button.

This is really strange. I guess it's telling me to move on from WinXP

ah, too bad
it looks like something is not released properly (here I mean resources like DirectX context etc.) after the first start.
perhaps also reinstall DirectX on your system

Sorry - noob here...
I've just bought the Celebrat10n-pack, installed Canyon first, created the Maniaplanet account, then it immediately mentioned a 'mandatory update'. I've done that, restarted the whole thing, and when I clicked 'PLAY' for the first time, the game display appears for about .25 secs, then is gone again
It does this every time, restarting doesn't help. So: pretty much same problem as described above.
I never even got a chance to activate the game.

Is there a solution to this?
Uninstall, and re-install without the update?

FWIW: I'm running Win7-64, plenty speed / memory on my laptop I would assume...

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Please head to the player page and reinstall it from there, using administrator rights (also check firewall settings then):
