[MP / TM2] Strange glowing effect in menus [solved]

Post by Pepsikat »

After watching the Trackmania Turbo trailer, I decided to reinstall the games and have another go at them. I noticed though, that many of the menus would cause the panning view of the environment to stop, and glowing to take over the screen. It only happens in some menus though. I haven't played in a while, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be seeing on some menus, but I remember that this isn't it.

I used Stadium for the screenshots, but it's happened on Canyon and Valley too.

----

Image

Main Menu - I don't have the problem here, oddly enough.

Image

Paint Editor - This is where I first noticed the problem. It goes away and I'm taken to the normal painting screen once I click on "Paint!". It's way less extreme here.

Image

ManiaPlanet Home - Happens here too. Sometimes I can see the outlines of what looks like some kind of buttons, but it goes shined out by the glowing too quick for me to see what they are.

Image

ManiaPlanet Store - More glowing! It happens on the rest of the menus in the hub, or whatever the proper name is for it.

----

It makes selecting other packs/titles from the hub a pain, and I'd really to try the user made stuff! My drivers are updated, and the game certainly runs fine. I don't have any issues on other games, and I remember this working fine before. I did a clean install, made sure I didn't have any addons or modifications. I messed with the graphical settings too. I've tried everything I can think of at the moment.

I'd be really happy if anyone knows a solution, I've been itching to get more involved.

Ah, I just got done trying this. It makes it a little bit less bad, and I can see the buttons for a moment now! It's still being weird though.

I also just had a friend who's got the same graphics card as me start it, and they didn't seem to have the same problem. This is getting kind of bizarre.

reset the video card settings of the driver
reset the maniaplanet settings (delete the file Default.SystemConfig.Gbx in your user data maniaplanet config folder)

Disable PostProcess FX in maniaplanet settings? ( because I got a problem like that on my laptop ).

( btw, what is your graphic card? )

I tried all 3 of these, and it's still doing the thing. It's less intense though, unfortunately I feel like that even if I got the problem soled, the buttons for the titles still wouldn't render. Can't say for sure though. Sorry! I kinda feel like I'm pestering at this point.

Oh, and I also have a Radeon R9 280.

Hm. Does your friend have the same driver version?
Tell him to send you his Default.SystemConfig.Gbx file.
What I forgot to tlel you, in the folder c:\Program Data(x86)\ManiaPlanet\ there is a folder GpuCache_D3D9
you could also delete its content (gets generated again automatically).

I can only think of a video driver setting, or a faulty shader script.

Yeah, he's got the same drivers. He's just sent me that file, and the problem persisted.

However, I think this post has helped me find the issue! I went to go find that folder you mentioned, and it's not there. Looked in the standalone ManiaPlanet, and the Steam versions.

Narrowed it down atleast!

Hmm, deleting that didn't help the problem. It's certainly something to do with drivers or shaders, something like that. It kinda sucks, since I can't find anyone else having the same issue. It'll probably be something where I have to mess with settings and drivers and all that fun stuff, until I fix it.

I can still play the base games, it's just a little difficult to navigate is all. I seem to just make trouble though, and I'm having an issue with Canyon Extensions! That's not what this thread is about though, if I can't fix it on my own in a week or two maybe I'll make another thread (sorry :S).

I dunno how much you guys can do from here, but you've all been awesome for putting up with me for long as you have!
