What is "Editor input replay"?

Post by eyebo »

TStar explains it here:
http://www.mania-creative.com/talk/show ... eadid=5994

Is this correct, and if so... how do I use it?

I used record, built a map, and then saved the map.
But when I go to edit the track it doesn't give me the option for playback, even if I hold CTRL.

And if I choose the playback option on a new track, the game starts to render to Editor01.avi but it hangs, presumably because there's nothing to render yet.

I'm really curious about this feature. I'd love to hear from the devs about it. :thx:

I have asked one year ago about this feature and the answer from some of them was "What is it?"

I think it's a debug tool for the map editor. For example check if all blocks load well after an update. (like an automatic script to launch batch, here it put each block on the map). It's a speculation but a good utilization of this.

This is what I discovered so far:

It's something like the Windows 3.1 Recorder application.
The created *.InputsReplay.Gbx includes all the recorded keystrokes and mouse clicks.
The inputs replay is created anew after you validate or save your map. Previous recorded macros are saved in backup files.
There are also commands for pause, resume, stop and replay. But I don't know how to activate them.

To me it sounds like a tool for bugfixing! After you had a crash int the editor you would see exactly what you did and therefore can report and reproduce the crash over and over again.
I just don't know why Nadeo doesn't use it, if it's even there.... They should force the input Recording on everyone in beta!

I just tested the recorder again. It works now.

1. Enter a title (base or custom) of your choice, select EDITORS and than NEW MAP.
2. Hold the CTRL key while you select the SIMPLE or ADVANCED editor.
3. Choose RECORD to create an editor inputs replay.
4. Build you map (start with a small one).
5. Save your map without validation.
6. Exit the editor and select NEW MAP again.
7. Hold the CTRL key while choosing the same editor type before (Simple/Advanced).
8. Now click on PLAYBACK.
9. Select a video codec in the popup window (start with uncompressed full frames).
10. Click on the ManiaPlanet icon to restore its window (if it was previously in full-screen).
11. The map will automatically be rebuilt. In the background a video clip is recorded.
12. If something goes wrong, hit ESC to leave the playback mode.
13. You can find the AVI video clip in the folder Documents\ManiaPlanet\ScreenShots.
