Plenty of issues with the MediaTracker/Replay Editor

Post by riolu »

So first of all, cheers for adding the Mediatracker after all. Was really pleased to see it being part of the game since I've had the fear that it's not going to make it into the final game.
Anyway, there are still plenty of issues unfortunately, many of them which are actually new to the TMT Mediatracker and did not exist previously in MP3.

Starting off with actual replay saving.
  • - Replays cannot be saved after finishing anymore. To save your replay, you have to start a new attempt and hit R to save the previous replay. There should be a possibility to save the replay during the outro, just like it used to be in every other TM game before.
    - Replays saved online contain the whole race from the beginning of the map, instead of just the previously finished run. This sometimes leads into replays of 5min+, which makes it quite a pain to find the actual part why you saved the replay (WR, cool stunt, etc).
    - Not really an issue, but something I'm personally not a fan of: The replays end shortly after crossing the finish line. In previous TM games, replays usually lasted for around 3 seconds after finishing before ending.
Issues with the Mediatracker: Issues with rendering:
  • - The rendering does not start if the folder "Documents/TrackManiaTurbo/ScreenShots" does not exist. You either have to create the folder manually or shoot a screenshot first in order to start the rendering.
    - Previously used render settings seem not to save after a game restart. It always reverts to the standard, low quality Webm settings.
    - The video file is not automatically being named after the name of the replay file+"Video", but only "Video". Why is that?
    - Graphical bugs, such as pixelated water when looking at it from a certain angle. That is especially noticable in Lagoon.
    - Flickering clouds while rendering
    - (mentioned above) low quality car skins
    - Urgent: Graphical artifacts while rendering. It seems like badly calculated reflections are the cause for it. Often, you see pink/green flashes appearing on certain textures/around the car. This happens at every graphical setting, there's apparently no way to find a workaround for it.
Lars also managed to reproduce a crash which happens when loading one replay into the Mediatracker and then adding a replay saved from multiplayer.
CrashLog generated with the Debug version of the game: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/588 ... F9B80A.txt

I figure that the MediaTracker is not top priority for the development right now, but these things (especially the artifacts) need to be looked at, especially when looking at future updates for Maniaplanet.
Thanks

also: you can't cancel rendering, you have to force quit the game

Can you even save your ghosts from the solo campaign?

There's that map record (probably beaten since then) I did a two days ago I want to edit the replay of it.

Yes, after finishing a run, start a new attempt and hit R. That will allow you to save the replay.

Small bump for this thread: Water reflections are bugged during renders. On all water surfaces, white artifacts appear randomly, which is especially noticable on Valley. Would be cool if you could have a look at this!
