Music Locator Injection?

Post by Naveronasis_TM2 »

Is there a way to inject your locator url directly into a map without the use of an actual locator file?

I have been making maps for years but ever since 2013 whenever I make a music .loc and add it in game to a map it writes the URL to the file as garbage. Using GBX dump locator files that have worked for years, and also new locator files that are made correctly put

<dep file="Media\Musics\Return_All_Robots_Quicksilver_OC_ReMix.mux" url="http://h"/>

into my files instead of a usable url. My web URL I host on is very simple too its not anything TM has ever had a problem with.

http://www.naveronasis.com/tmm/Eufeion - Megaman Blast (master).mux

Is an example, try it, it works. But whenever I make a LOC file out of it, it breaks. Now don't go assuming I am making the loc wrong... I have over 200 maps all with different custom music that I converted and attached my self. I can still open TMU and make new maps and attach new music... This is just odd... Did they change the format you need to have text files in or something (like from unicode to utf or whatever)?

No. All locators in newer *.Challenge.Gbx files and all *.Map.Gbx files are protected with a checksum.
You can uncompress a track file and edit the locators using a hex editor. But after this you need to save the track once inside the game to generate the correct checksum. Otherwise the locator URL will not load.

Note that GbxDump indicates only the data stored in the file header. The XML part there is for information only (and older track file versions doesn't include all used locators). The real locators are stored (sometimes more than once) inside the compressed file body.
Therefore, if the URL is displayed incorrectly in the header, must not necessarily mean that the locators in the file body are also flawed.

Can you please provide a link to one of such a map so that I can take a closer look where the problem could be?

This is not a valid MUX file. It's an OGG file! I recommend to use this file with the original/correct *.ogg extension or convert it using the game launcher or with the file picker inside the editor.

You can save the *.loc file as plain ASCII (recommended) or UTF8. But the included text is limited to ASCII (or the charset to build valid URL's).

I can create a map using your sample music locator without problems and I have no idea why it doesn't work for you.

Godaddy keeps blocking .ogg files from being directly downloaded, but I have an exception for MUX, mux is just a wrapper anyway and renamed files work fine. :/ I know for a fact the maps I'm making with the locators aren't working properly.

I am going to make you a youtube video showing you my exact problem asap.
