Nah they just decided to move posts instead of delete them this time. (Thank you Nadeo! <3)

The only problem I can see for people changing their name is that, good or bad, people relate that name with who you are. By changing it, many people might not know who you are anymore and you will just seem like a new user. No matter what you choose, in a year or two you may wish you had picked a different one again.
A while back someone thought my nickname was offensive and I thought about changing it, but what they didn't know is that I chose that name to pay homage to the Dr. Demento Show (a comical and parody music radio show) because I love humor.
I don't think people pay as much attention to what a person chose for their name as they do to the things that person says.
Experience from other forums says that this confusion barely ever exists if the people in question are already known as both names.

I don't think confusion is a big problem. It's also a feature that probably does not take a lot to add. Even having a limit, like only changing your nickname once per year would be good.

Impersonating other users is strictly forbidden. But honestly we haven't had much of a problem with it anyway.
The biggest problem it's caused is that some people forget that their display name is NOT their login, and years later they try to login with their display name, which doesn't work.
What about just connecting the ManiaPlanet-Account to the forum, so it uses the same login "unchangeable name" but you still change the displayed name then? Or maybe show both, display name bigger than the "login", like this:
