It just doesn't "feel" like Canyon anymore, the controls, drifting and everything has changed for the worse...
Canyon feels like Stadium dynamics now - sux.

Re: Canyon feels terrible now
He is 100% right... It utterly feels unplayable to me and if not changed back makes me stop playing it entirely! Unacceptable changes!
I loved this game since 13 Years now and it was always true to its origin... This is not what Trackmania used to be!
Edit: i also don't see a competitive scene anymore with those physics... eswc won't be an option anymore AT ALL and private hosted tournaments won't be that great anymore aswell as it used to be!
And i am not one of the trolling plebs, i am one of those who played long long enough (90K is the norm) and i am being fully honest and true to this opinion i stated!

Feel free to ignore me if you have a different opinion.
As far it seems to me two things happened: Gravity was increased slightly and start acceleration was increased.
The increase in gravity effects two things. It makes drifting a bit stickier and duller, as well as effectively removing some of the finer control while drifting. (That loss of finer control is why longer low speed drifts don't work now. Shorter and more acute low speed drifts still work fine.) Secondly, it makes the car a bit stiffer on landings which can cause more erratic behavior if not landing appropriately from jumps.
Start acceleration increasing doesn't make much of a difference I guess, but it's a thing now.
Audio is likewise different, sounds a bit neutered to my ears. Otherwise, all the old mechanics still work, so there's not much of a difference except for it feeling kind of dampered, or dull, or some other word like that which escapes me at the moment.
I don't see the point for the changes or what was hoped to be accomplished. I also don't see how it's possible for anyone to celebrate the fact that every Dedimania and Mania-Exchange replay for Canyon is essentially worthless. But I don't want to be a downer so I'll just leave it at that.

Re: Canyon feels terrible now
Yeah, this is actually really bad. I have no problem with whatever cosmetic changes are deemed necessary, but altering the handling/physics is kind of a deal breaker moving forward. If the idea is to wipe the slate clean then I guess it makes sense, otherwise hopefully it can be put back.

Re: Canyon feels terrible now
Well generally the whole changes made to the game are disgusting to me... I didnt ask for visual changes, i didnt ask for physic changes, i only wanted new creative features, a few new blocks (non changed) and technical improvments not changes (which they did a lot therefor highlevel competitive setups for Shootmania n stuff dont work anymore)
UI was perfectly fine what trackmaniacs wanted and loved. They just ruined the game imo...
And this is now very personal: Nadeo i loved you from 2004 with every little thing you did for me and today you broke me heart... potentially, forever!
Maniaplanet will be kept uninstalled until changes will be reversed, thats what im gonna tell you!

Re: Canyon feels terrible now
Listen, no start acceleration was changed, you just have less "airtime" thus earlier release, you start directly from the floor, direct acceleration.
Then, there was slight changes to the cameras, which give you the feeling something has changed drastically in physics, which is not the case.

IIRC Hylis stated the same thing about Turbo Canyon. Yet noone that is actually any good at the environment agrees.Rots wrote: ↑10 May 2017, 01:44 Listen, no start acceleration was changed, you just have less "airtime" thus earlier release, you start directly from the floor, direct acceleration.

All I can say is, give the new gameplay a chance.
I've played Canyon (it's my main environment) since the Canyon beta in 2011. I agree it felt very different at first, but after a few days I got used to it and even switched back and forth between the ManiaPlanet 4 beta and ManiaPlanet 3 Canyon without noticing much difference after a while.
Now it feels every bit as fun to me as Canyon has been the past 6 years.

Re: Canyon feels terrible now
See there's the issue already... "Get used to"
Never touch a running system! Canyon worked since the first beta day physicswhise flawlessly and had perfect mechanics that were so extremly well refined that there was never a need for change in first place!
Changing gravity by the way is the worst thing you can ever do in a trackmania environment... It destroys nearly ALL classics and makes a few awesome pieces of maps unplayable! This already happened with Trackmania Nations ESWC with the upgrade to United and by that for example tons of great tracks lost their intended smoothness or are fully unfinishable.
I know this is the trackmania section but for Obstacle its now kinda the same but just different.
This update will piss off more players than it will generate new ones! That is not the goal Nadeo was looking for!
The main issue with the Maniaplanet hub before was always the launcher and the boxes touchscreen type selection which is actually not user friendly at all! That sounds weird but trust me i am a menu UI engineer and they should have changed Maniaplanets interface, not Shootmanias or Trackmanias!
And btw if you gonna change the menus, do it fully and dont leave the original menus behind in the profile section...
Nadeo may improve on MP4 to the better, no question about it! But the question is, is this anymore the game, you want to play?
Now im even going as far as to say that they should have a legacy client so ppl can play MP3 as oldschool highend content, which actually doesnt need any updates bcus MP3 was in itself without real issues!
