Extracting Track from TM2 Replay

Post by Demented »

I've been converting tracks from MP3 to MP4 and came across one that won't load at all.
Is there a good method for Extracting the Map from a MP3 version Canyon Replay?
~
BTW: I have tried the program "ReplayToChallenge" with no avail. I assume it is way outdated.

If you send me the map, I can take a look.

The tool MapEdit provides such a function.

It still works. But Maniaplanet 4 doesn't recognized such embedded maps any more.

Maniaplanet removes the file header from a map before it is stored in the Replay file (to reduce the file size). So you can not play such a striped map. But until Maniaplanet 3, you were able to load the map into the map editor (the map password is still active) and save it back to a full working map.

But the file browser of Maniaplanet 4 is not able any more to detect such a map without a file header. This is a pity, because using such a tool was more than once the last chance to recover a map, if you lost it while building the map (because of a crash or by overwriting it).

Thanks Electron.
I think I've got MapEdit in an old backup folder. I'll give that a try.
I think I may have lost the original map and tried renaming a replay which was suggested a while back as a way to load it in the map editor and resave. I've been playing it by racing the replay but now with the update the replays blocks have so many holes it is unplayable. If worse comes to worse I can recreate it from memory and looking at the replay.

Out of over 300 maps of mine that I've converted from MP3 it's only one of four that became unplayable. Not too bad I guess. The other three can't be played due to (Valley) geometry changes and the removal of the various lake edges in Canyon. I can still use those maps though by rebuilding parts of them and revalidating them but they will not be the same as they were. :(
On the bright side, I am happy that I can use my old replays in conjunction with new ones from converted maps as long as the new file names are of lower value than old ones. :)

I don't know why but I tried "ReplayToChallenge" again and for some reason it did work this time. I had to remove ".challenge" from the maps file name after it extracted the map, but then I was able to load it into the Map editor, convert it to MP4 version, recalculate the lightmap, drive a test run, save the new replay (with a lower valued file name than previous saved replays), then loaded 25 older replays from that map along with the new one and... ...everything worked great! I could race against all of the old and new replays at once (same as all the other tracks I've converted).

Anyway, Thanks Electron for offering your help. I appreciate it, but managed to get things working. :thx:
