Hi,
I'm having trouble opening maps in the editor. When I try to open any map on any titlepack my game crashes, but before that, it says that my gpu was "removed" (DEVICE_HUNG) from my system, which I suppose is a DirectX error. I am using the standalone client.
Sometimes, when I open a map, it instantly crashes after loading the map. Some other times, I am free to look around in the editor for something like 3 to 4 seconds (with very low quality lighting), the game crashes afterwards. Curiously enough, I only have crashlogs for times where the game crashes instantly, so I have no idea what happens when it doesn't.
I have no problem doing anything else in the game, I can play online, open the maps to play them and all...
This never happened to me before. I have tried updating the driver of my "gpu" (Intel® UHD Graphics 620), uninstalling the drivers for a fresh install of the new one, all to no success.
Here are the crashlogs I could gather, since not all instances of this created a crashlog :
I hope you can help me find a solution, as I have already shared my trouble with some other players who seem to have the same issue, and don't know how to fix it.
Thanks in advance,
Panimioul.

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Hey, I have some updates. The issue is NOT fixed.
I talked to someone and we tried some stuff to see what the issue would be.
-I can create new maps, save them and open them with no issue at all.
-I have created a block after the issue started happening, using it in a map creates no issue until you try to open the map in which case it crashes.
-I have tried downloading blocks from maniapark, items from him. I can use those with no trouble at all.
-I have tried reinstalling everything except the map. It didn't do anything.
All of this seems to lead to one possible answer, which would be file corruption. However, I sent the map to him and he can open it without any problem.
Maybe these few new elements will help if somehow I get an answer at some point.
Thanks in advance,
Panimioul.

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Hi Panimioul
I also suspect some corruption but in the program files, not the map (which you say works fine for your friend).
My suggestions:
1. Have you tried clearing the cache in the Launcher? [Configure - Advanced - PeerToPeer] Then open the game; try opening the map.
2. Have you tried completely uninstalling the game: Normal Uninstall, then delete the Maniaplanet folder in
C:\Program Files (x86) ? Then reinstall.
Cheers......

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Hi, thanks for the suggestions !
About deleting the peer to peer cache :
After deleting the cache, the issue still happened but maniaplanet didn't completely crash until I hit a wall when drive-testing the map (I still have the very bad lighting and all of what comes with it, such as no skid marks and all). The crash didn't issue a crashlog.
About reinstalling :
I completely uninstalled the game (preserving my map in a different folder
). However I was unable to find any maniaplanet folder in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" directory. There wasn't anything from maniaplanet in the related directories such as ProgramData, Program Files, or Appdata.
I suppose this comes from the fact that I did a custom install on my secondary drive, D:\ManiaPlanet was the folder in which the game was installed.
After reinstalling the game, it only crashes when I hit a wall while drive-testing the map (with the same lighting issues as before and the message still happens). I have no idea how this works
I hope some other suggestions will solve the problem !
Thanks in advance,
Panimioul.

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
If your system is not 64-bit, then I guess you should be looking for the ManiaPlanet folder inside 'Program Files' instead. I know you said that you have looked there but I still think your issue will persist until you clear out those ManiaPlanet system files (before reinstalling). One file which may be causing trouble is 'GpuCache_xxxx_.zip' ..... xxxx varies of course.
Now you mention that this is a custom install, so you might also find one or both of these folders in the root directory of your second drive:
E.g. 64-bit ... "D:\Program Files (x86)\ManiaPlanet" or 32-bit ... "D:\Program Files\ManiaPlanet".
Having said that, I actually believe that all program system files are normally located on the Primary drive ( C: ). So I'm not sure what's happening to that folder - it is not normally deleted during automatic uninstall. I could be wrong - NADEO might have changed this process to clear all those folders you mentioned.
* Now you have reinstalled a clean copy of the game, can you find the 'ManiaPlanet' folder anywhere? If not, then your system has set it as 'Hidden'.
* The folder usually contains two directories - 'GameData' and 'Packs' plus some loose files.
* You do not need to move or delete the 'ManiaPlanet' folder in your Documents folder.
Finally, have you tried turning your antivirus programme/s off during installation? Some antivirus programmes can interfere.
* If you try this, don't forget to turn back on afterwards!
Cheers .....

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Hey ! Thanks for the quick answer.
I do not have any antivirus software installed on my machine, and windows defender isn't activated. Thus, anything related to an antivirus interfering isn't what's happening.
Yes, there was a folder (D:\ManiaPlanet) like that on my D drive, and it was deleted when uninstalling. The uninstaller asked me if I wanted to delete each folder the game I created and I said yes, so the install is a clean one. I can locate the maniaplanet folder in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ManiaPlanet", this time it's in the C drive since I didn't do any custom install.
The issue was not solved by the fresh install though as you can see from my previous message. Doing a fresh install basically takes 4 hours to do and isn't fun though
Welp, if you have some stuff to try out i'd be happy to, but I've kind of ran out of ideas about what to do at this point... Thanks for the help anyway !

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Ok mate - all good. So let's go back to the video area: Let's assume the Intel Graphics 620 GPU is to blame.
3. You could try checking for errors in device signatures with a DxDiag Report:
1. Use the win logo key +R
2. Type DxDiag then "OK"
You will see a page like this one:
https://mega.nz/#!zXoQTajb!y906-9IGh7Nj ... mIqYKTQpnk
(Yes, I use an iMac. When you finish laughing, read on.)
As you can see, at the bottom of the 'Display' Tab, the comment is: " * No problems found ". I wonder if yours will be the same.
3. Use the "save all the information" option
4. Save the file to your desktop (click on 'Save all information' button) for reading the full details.
* My output:
I noticed that down near the bottom of this report,
"Problem signature:
P1: ManiaPlanetLauncher.exe"
appears four times. I don't have freezes or crashes; my game works fine with display settings at High - Very Nice - High texture - Very Nice Geometry, yet my system report seems to suggest that ManiaPlanet is 'not perfect...'
4. You could try replacing your Intel driver with the Win 10 driver:
I found a video which, although a couple of years old, does show this process quite well - and saves me some typing.
" solve a lot of problems on crashing ingame of the latest Intel hd ... devices especially on Windows 10 ... "
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oSWbYNHerY
This may give you some clues.
Over to you.
Cheers ....

Cheers ....

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
Hey, sorry for the late answer !
I'd consider I'm well versed in that kind of basic to medium computer things like this, you could have just told me to run dxdiag and check for problems here for example. That would be faster for you since you wouldn't have to explain every step every time for me.
I had already done a diagnostic and it had found no errors. I did a double check right now to verify the result and yeah there still doesn't seem to be anything out of place and the display tab just shows me no errors at all. I did run a test WHILE opening the map to see if it would trigger an error, to no avail. Launching a diagnostic after the crash/bug happened led to no errors either.
Using the windows drivers by uninstalling the intel drivers didn't help, In fact you can't launch the game without the intel drivers. You can't even download the latest drivers from their websites the only file you can download is a pdf of the changelog and not the actual drivers zipped like you could do before. I obviously reinstalled the intel drivers using window's toolset.
Here's my dxdiag file though I don't think you can get much from it. (these LiveKernelEvent errors be monkaS though.)
Thanks for helping out !
Panimioul.

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
The DxDiag is looking OK, could not see anything which would cause this trouble.
Could you perhaps try to run the debug version of Maniaplanet?
It is available here: http://files.v04.maniaplanet.com/setups ... etLogs.zip
just extract it aside your regular Maniplanet.exe and launch the debug version instead.
It will ceate a more detailed file than the crashlog, and can be found in your windows documents -> Maniaplanet

Re: [CRASH] Opening any map makes the game crash
TMarc has my next suggestion: Thanks for that.
I agree that nothing in your DxDiag output helps us.
As for me going on and on with detail, assuming you 'know nothing', what can I say? Among my several careers was teaching and you know what they're like once they get going ... yap yap yap... Sorry mate.
At the risk of more condescension though, you did mention that you don't have antivirus software installed. Is Defender up-to-date? Should it be active? Have you run a full scan lately? I mean, are you certain that there is nothing in your system which might interfere with game installation or Editor functions? Just a thought (which I guess you've had yourself already
)
I don't mean to be rude (just cheeky), as I don't know what your network setup is like. I think we should check all possibilities, including unwelcome bugs that may have snuck into your system, regardless of your network protections.
* After all this, one thing still really bugs me: "After reinstalling the game, it only crashes when I hit a wall while drive-testing the map (with the same lighting issues as before and the message still happens). I have no idea how this works".
This is weird behaviour and does need some explanation (maybe of interest to the Dev's). Damn!
Ok, standing by for your next step - good luck!
