Starting Maniaplanet

Post by Demented »

I've wondered about this for some time now.
I mostly play offline and when I start the game I always have to tap the escape key three times to skip past "Not connected" messages. Is there a way around this? Doesn't seem to matter what settings I use in Launcher or Profile.
Also for quite a while now, once Maniaplanet is started there is no Title loaded into the default slot. I have to select one first. Doesn't seem to matter how I exited the game from the previous session... Doesn't matter if I was online or offline, nor which Title I had loaded before I quit.
Is this normal now?
Will it be changed?

I don't have additional messages after the profile selection popup where one can select online, silent or offline.
could you please post screenshots?

I will take screenshots next time I start the game.
I have "use one profile" selected so I don't get the choose profile popup.
If I start the game with the internet connected I get no messages that need skipped. It's only when internet is not connected I have to close the warning messages (or hit escape). It's been like this for years now for me.

ah, ok.
In the launcher, advanced, network settings, do you have the checkbox "check the internet connection" enabled or disabled?

But, Maniaplanet needs more or less constanct connection, at least every couple of weeks or so.

I've tried it with both enabled and disabled. Doesn't seem to matter.
I connect every time there's an update... or if I'm playing user maps with locators... but for the mostpart I just stay offline.
I use to be able to start the game with a shortcut to the exe and it would load right into the Title I had last loaded. (years ago but in Maniaplanet)
Not a big deal, it's just extra steps and it would be nice to click the icon, go get a drink of water and come back with the game ready to play.

Hi Demented.

No, this is not 'normal', although I think I have some distant, vague memory of this happening over a decade ago in TMU.
As TMarc has suggested, the game routinely sends network requests to maintain a link, whether you are in Offline or Online mode but this should be in the background (talking to the network, not the player).

My only thought: Some nasty, persistent little update crossover bug might be lurking in there somewhere. How long since you did a full uninstall/ clean reinstall of the game?

Cheers ..... :pil

Thanks Guys.
I'm not using any command lines...

I don't really think a screenshot will make a difference because I can describe exactly what I do and what comes up...

- I launch Maniaplanet with an unmodified shortcut icon to ManiaplanetLauncher.exe,
- Then click Play,
- Next, as the game starts loading I get the first error "http error 10 006" - I hit escape or click "ok"
- Then I get second error "Could Not Connect: http error 10 006" - I again hit escape or click "ok"
- Next is error message "You are not connected to the internet": with options "Retry" or "Stay Offline" - I hit escape again and the game loads.

Even after 1st load, if I quit and restart the game, I have to go through the same steps.
NOTE: (This is with my pc physically not connected to the internet).
If I start the same way with the internet connected I get no errors. But, I prefer to stay offline unless I need to update or locate custom content or if I'm beta testing (During Beta tests I test in both modes but mostly just stay connected)

Under "Profile" I have "Use single profile" selected.
In advanced settings "Check Internet Connection" is unchecked. (Doesn't seem to matter if it is or isn't)
"Auto Update" is also unchecked. (Doesn't seem to matter if it is or isn't)

Another note: I have my game installed on a second internal drive (E:drive) (not C drive) and I have Custom Data, Game Data and Personal Data all assigned to E:Drive and not C:Documents.

I have not done a full install in years but since this is my only issue, I'd really rather not. Tapping escape a couple times is less a pain in the ass for me than reinstalling and reconfiguring everything.

I'm hoping there is an ini command or setting I can change or a file I can move or something to that nature.
Maybe someone at Nadeo knows why this happens.
I know most people never or rarely play "disconnected" and just assumed this was something most would never encounter.

Thanks again for taking time to try and help me resolve this. :D

I think Nighthawk may be right. I think my game is trying to contact an old network.
Maybe someone knows how I can resolve that without reinstalling. :?

There are a number of system fixes which can help. In this case, your IP Configuration might need to be cleaned up.
Here is a simple one which will take you two minutes:

In Command Prompt, type the command: ipconfig /flushdns
After pressing the Enter Key, the process should take one or two seconds.

Restart your computer. Connect to MP as you normally do. See what happens. :!:

No change? Here's the full list of related commands:

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

Go through each of these in Command Prompt, exit and then restart your computer.
It would also do no harm at some point to reset (reboot) your router.

Start MP - see what happens. :?: :!:
