Thanks Nighthawk.
I went through each of those steps, off and online, reboot each time, started game offline, started game online...
No change.
I think there is an old file somewhere trying to locate a server no longer valid when I am offline causing the issue.
Short of TMarc's suggestion of doing a full reinstall of the game, I think I'm just gonna shelf this for now.
Unless someone knows what line in which file is looking for the possibly extinct sever, I think I'm at a point with this that it's no longer worth the hassle.
Thanks for your help.

It can be a title, ads, something in the cache, or even some custom stuff in your files which gets opened and checks for an update etc.

Only to be sure that it is not Maniaplanet itself,
you could take the full setup, install it fully customized in different folders than the existing setup, and try first with a fresh new local account only.

Did you try to monitor your internet connection to find which site is being accessed?

Thanks Tmarc.
When I'm online there is no issue at all.
Seems the error code means the game cannot establish a connection. But, offline it shouldn't even be trying to.
I'm not one to give up on a thing but there comes a point when it's not worth the headache, so, I think I'll set this aside for now.
It has no effect on the game or anything. Just takes a little longer to start up Maniaplanet. ;)

It's certainly not being caused by a system file now, as the steps I suggested would have cleared any redundant stuff. So I think both you and TMarc are now onto it - there's a gremlin  somewhere in the game files.

If you do nothing more, then hopefully a future update will overwrite or delete whatever it is.

Cheers ..... :pil

Thank you guys both again
I appreciate you helping me try and nail down this issue.
I'm sure at some point in time I'll either do a reinstall that will eliminate the issue or I'll figure out just which line in an ini or data file is looking for the old stuff.

Since this error apparently appears for others, were you able to solve it?
Did you have the chance to find out what it was exactly?

Nope. I just gave up on it.
Figured I'd see what happens next time I reinstall windows.

Hi Demented
Just for interest, does the Network sheet in Launcher look like this? :

No Proxy; all zeroes on 'Force server address'; Disable advertising ticked and both boxes under that un-ticked.
If active, all these functions will send chatter through your network, starting when you select 'Play' in the Launcher, so I guess it wont hurt to check these settings...

* The 'Peer-to-Peer' sheet in my Launcher has all boxes ticked but I don't think that matters, as (I suspect) those functions do not become active until after the game interface has loaded.

Cheers. :pil

Only differences on mine are:
- Disable advertising [unticked]
- Send error reports to Nadeo [ticked]
- Network speed set to 100mb
