New PC build "advice pls"

Post by wraith »

Hello everyone

This my 5th PC build but not sure what to go for infact no idea..
Things i have and things i am getting, new graphics card GTX 1080ti, looking to buy a Samsung 1tb ssd as my main drive, 32gb ddr4 ram or more depending on the m-board...

Adivce pls
i9 cpu or i7 ?
my i7 4790k as been and still is working very good, but i am looking for more power, in more closed beta testing, since i am ready to leave xbox gaming next year after 14 years on xbox live.

Heard the i9 is very good at Streaming, Rendering, but not as good as the i7 for gaming advice pls.
Mother board now this depends on the cpu again no idea advice pls.

Will i need an after market cooler as i think my water cooler will not fit as the i7 4790k uses 1150 and the newer ones are 1151, if this is true advice pls.
So this build be everything in side the case and a new case.
what is your pc specs ? and are you happy with it..

To be honest i do not want to rob old bits from my i7 4790k,as 16gb ram and strix 1050ti may sell it or keep it not sure yet

You will laugh, I'm still quite happy with my old i7-970, 12GB tripple channel RAM, and a GeForce RTX2060.
The CPU is clearly a limiting factor for newer really hungry games, but still powerful enough for full HD.

One big improvement in the past was the shift from HDD to SSD, at least for the system and for the game engine files.
Sooner or later the tradeoff between disk space, price and durability will make SSD the best choice.

If you can afford it, take the i9 or the best AMD chip and build the best system you can get at the moment, and you'll be safe for many years.
Otherwise, look here and there for the recommendations for good gaming PC.

I recently switched over to AMD and I must say their latest CPUs are really really fast compared to my old i7, for a lot cheaper as well. Would recommend. The only issue is with AMD you'd need a different socket, so you'll have to get a new motherboard as well. Eh :P
3080 RTX, Ryzen 3700X, 32GB RAM, Windows 11

I can't tell anything about i7. I switched from a 2nd generation i5 (a laptop) to a desktop with a Ryzen 7. That change was like changing from an old VW Type 1 to a Porsche. MP now runs smoothly and I can play longer (old laptop had overheating issue so I could play only 20 min before shutting down).
CPU: Ryzen 7 2600; Video: GeForce 1070; RAM: 16GB; also known as The Lil' Electricity Bill Booster. In-game as <MATKS95>
