There is a game I had to go looking for a key on the internet.
Key written on manual woudn't pass. Guess EA support would have fixed that but hey...
And yeah, my HL1 key, that someone else registrer on steam before I got there. I had to pay the game again.
Valve support woudn't here it. They where asking me for a 10$ note, and the manual to be posted to the US. ouch !

Re: Ubisoft DRM
When I say scrap the DVD, I mean for people who have downloaded the game. For them, it doesn't seem unreasonable to require an 'occasional' online validation, this would not prevent you from playing offline for periods.Ripbox wrote:but if they scrap the DVD what happens to those who dont have internet? does this mean they are not allowed to play? why should they be penalised because they cant afford it or just have no means of getting it!?MrA wrote:There should be ways to require occasional online check-in that means having a downloaded DVD .iso will not be too useful. Or you could just scrap the DVD bit and just require occasional check-in online to 'validate' yourself.
I have internet now but in a few weeks time i wont have it because i cant afford it!! should i really not be allowed to have the game and not be able to play it?
If you did not download it, then you must have the DVD (by default), so again offline shouldnt be a problem. If you have the DVD and also are online, then your 'occasional' validation can save you needing the DVD to play.

Re: Ubisoft DRM
The DRM thing is pretty much not needed with the online key being the access for online, but as long as there is an offline consideration then i don't suppose it's too bad...
...Not that i find many offline uses for TM other than lan, and practice ... Playing Solo is really 1/100th of what TM is all about, It's an online creative community, being part of that OFFLINE is impossible, you will be playing some other game that looks like TM but is missing the substance (in fairness tht's how TM started for me).
The Important this is to keep TM almost "as is" ...MY first tm was TMS ... I downloaded a copy from the ed2k network (E-Mule Magicangel) and was hooked fro mthen on in ...Only later to buy a copy then TMS, then TMU, then more TMU acc's, then TMF, then more TMF accounts
The BEST DRM, is the kind that makes people want to buy the product, nothing else can beat that
...It would be nice to just trust people as boum said but y'know, lifes full of silly rules because some people have no manners, tact or respect.... Shame, but the way it is eh.

Re: Ubisoft DRM
But I guess it wouldn't work with TM², because every Envi comes in a single Pack and then you have many DVDs. It would be very annoying, when you are playing offline, and you need to change the DVD every time you drive an other EnviMrA wrote:There should be ways to require occasional online check-in that means having a downloaded DVD .iso will not be too useful. Re: Ubisoft DRM
So i went to my local Games stop "Chips" on Friday 18/06/2010 and i had a lengthy discussion about why they were no longer stocking/selling and trading PC games and the 1st thing that was said was "Its because of the DRM"
we talked some more of why it was affecting the sales ect and the bottom line was the DRM has killed the pc gaming market
1: Customers would buy a game only to find they couldn't play it because they had no means to authenticate via on-line methods thus bringing an influx of sale returns and putting the shop put of pocket
2: In turn of the above regular customers were decreasing because of the DRM's thus creating a smaller demand for PC games
3: DRM in games is making the physical Media worthless = £0.00 as accounts and keys are tied to emails and DRM accounts thus a new owner could not play on and off-line
4: Digital media has also crippled the hard copy sales of PC games too because there is no hard physical genuine media disc thus it has zero resale value too
Their view on DRM's is that it has killed the PC games market and driven Piracy to a new level and believe that the PC games market will not survive much longer if they continue this way
The big question is are these companies that USE the DRM make more sales or losing more sales??
Mine, shops and many others opinions are that they are losing sales

Re: Ubisoft DRM
I can't remember the last time I was in a games shop to actually buy something, I only buy games on Steam now because at least stuff works there. Usually.
Re: Ubisoft DRM
well id love to be able to trade in some old pc games that i dont and wont play but looks like those days are gone
i also like to have hard original nicely package games rather than a digital copy on a cheap nasty disc with a poor quality home made cover
i did buy TMU via a digital copy but i do wish i had waited for a physical hard copy
