Re: Ubisoft DRM
I think Maniaplanet (TM2) can get away with a lot more because online functionality is such a big deal. It's one thing for a first-person solo shooter to require constant connection because it makes no sense for gameplay, but I wouldn't mind for Maniaplanet to have more checks. I still think that I should be able to play TM2 offline in some format though.

Re: Ubisoft DRM
Agree! The maniaplanet games are nothing without their community! (assuming SM and QM were as communitybased as TM)
I noticed it myself. I played TM offline and it became boring really fast. The only thing that could motivate me, were new addons or new games.
BUT, since I discovered the community-side of TM, I am playing it with no big breaks! For this I need an internet-connection and play online. So such a "hard" DRM is not necessary in my eyes.
Also I trust Hylis and the Nadeo crew because they know all the good and bad aspects about DRM and they will make the right decision (as always

Re: Ubisoft DRM
I agree with you, haenry, in that over 80% of my time in TM is spent racing online...and so I have no problem with a DRM that checks my connection periodically. However, even though my family has recently moved into upgraded internet, it still randomly dies from time to time, and I can guarantee I'm not the only one in a rural area like this. When my internet poofs, I don't want my game to poof as well. Maybe kick me back to SP mode, or even just the editor or something, I can live with that, but some of Ubi's DRM games will boot you out of the entire GAME if your internet connection to the server dies, without even so much as a chance to get in a last-ditch save--and that's not even counting if the issue is server-side...Ubi's own servers had this problem during an initial run of their "new-and-improved" DRM with Assassin's Creed...

Re: Ubisoft DRM
I think you 3 guys in the post above me forget a big part of maniaplanet: the editor.
I already forsee some great crashes back to desktop after working on an intro for 2 hours.
also looking forward to the dll or whatever file that's going to be snooping memory.

Re: Ubisoft DRM
No, I didn't forget that. I just didn't wrote it out, as it was not necessary that much.
I started TM with the editor. It was the only part of trackmania, that fascinated me so much. Ofc I playes the solocampaign, but the Editor was really the main part for me.
I build around 12pages of tracks in TMS (all crap
). Then TM somehow got extremely boring and I quitted playing. The only thing, that was able to motivate me again, were the new blocks with the "extreme" addon.
With every new game/addon of TM I bought, I build tons of maps and then quitted gaming.
So it was the community and the online playing, that fixed me to trackmania

Re: Ubisoft DRM
That's great and all, but i was merely pointing towards the part where you agreed on Ravious' post who in his own words said maniaplanet games focus more on the online gaming than offline, so a serverping to see if you are still allowed to play every x amount of hours isn't a big deal.haenry wrote:No, I didn't forget that. Re: Ubisoft DRM
I love the way all these assumptions based on the Ubisoft DRM are automaticaly put as features for TM2 by the crowd
I think it has good protection, and Uplay will probably (although don't quote me, i'm guessing ^^) not even appear in the Trackmania 2 series whatsoever.
Of course this is no different to how this is atm (in tmuf) anyway, your playing online and the net bombs, you are kicked from server and cannot do official times or spend the currency, i very much doubt offline mode will not work ...so hold your horses

Re: Ubisoft DRM
I've not said that TM2 will have this "feature", this thread is called "Ubisoft DRM", and I think it should be better in the Offtopic category because that would fits better than in Maniaplanet...jamie_macdonald wrote:I love the way all these assumptions based on the Ubisoft DRM are automaticaly put as features for TM2 by the crowd![]()
