Trackmania2 - needs a FREE to play game part

Post by MicronicleDust »

Dear TM2 Development Team,

Trackmania started off as a unknown game, not much sales here.
Sunrise which was the second release of Trackmania and didn't sell good as well.
It was until Trackmania Nations was released Trackmania really got the attention of gamers.
Even after all the attention, United didn't really sell that well.
The number on the webpage is a lie.. that includes nation subscriptions (Yeah the free once!)
People only played because it was FREE.
Not because the awesome stunts and the great sceneries.
The Trackmania Development team (with all respect) GOT to realize that if they release TM2 for payed customer only.
This is going to be one big flop.
It does not mater how good the graphics are or how cool the new editor options are.
Please make a part of the game totally free. Like Nations.
Or release a new Nations bassed on the Engine used on TM2.
I love Trackmania, I don't want to see it flop!

Sincerely,
MicronicleDust

:teub: What freaking reality do you live in? There's a Nations forum. It's called, wait for it...TM-Forum.com. Go back there. All 9 million players have purchased, and play, United. The 14 million are Nations and United combined. If you don't want to pay for a game, Nations isn't going anywhere. Keep playing that if you want. But TM2 is -not- going to be just for the freeloaders, got it? This is really quite simple. There's this little thing called money that everyone uses, and is a stand-in for the bartering that used to take place in the past. Now, not to wax too technical or get too confusing for you, I'm going to say this: Nadeo needs money in order to continue to make games. Where do you think they come from? Candyland? How do you think Nadeo pays their electric bill, pays their employees, buys the equipment they use to program the games with? Nations was a big money loss for them--I'm sure the total cost was in the millions, as they essentially re-did the engine the first time around for ESWC. If they do that every time--much like Obama with the US economy, as you continue to spend money and not make money, eventually you'll -have- no money. And, unlike many countries' governments, there -isn't- a magic money truck coming in that will magically supply you with cash. The only way they can recoup the cost of MAKING an awesome game, is, wait for it...charging money! I know, radical concept, huh? I know that you want everything for free--but once you stop being a whiny little kiddy and join the ADULT world, you'll realize that not everything works like that. So, shoo. Go back to Stadium. Or purchase Canyon. It's really up to you. But you're NOT going to get a free version of TM2 that's just like Nations. <_< :teub:

+1 for government spending crack. :roflol:

*derail* -- I don't think Nations was a total loss... considering that was mine and many of my friends' introduction to the world of TrackMania, which resulted in 4 (soon-to-be 5) purchases of other TrackMania products by myself and said friends. We then spread the love to other friends who we got to at least get into Nations and further by United (and hopefully TM2 here soon.)

That said, I'd consider it a win in a roundabout way... granted, not enough to eat up all the costs of Nations I'm sure... but I'm sure there are many others like me that have brought a lot of after-the-fact revenue for NADEO (and now Ubi) thanks to Nations.

GG!

*back on track* -- Now go forth and plan to purchase TM2 instead of buggin' for a free one. ;)

Releasing a free game wont help with the economic, logical sence.
Nations was known for its environment and if you want stadium, go play stadium, its still free.

Nations may have been free to you, but it cost nadeo money to develop and maintain. It did have a revenue source to partially cover running costs until that outsourced service was closed.
Maybe if an alternative revenue source can be found then maybe you can get your wish, but i doubt it.
Ubisoft now have a say in things and they have alot of overheads, they are a business, and like all business they have to make money or close. Nadeo themselves have grown, how else would they be able to develop 3 games at once.
You might get lucky, maybe there will be a TM2 powered Free nations type game, but if there was to be such a thing, i'm sure it would be based on the 5th or last enviroment developed, well after shootmania and questmania have been released, so come back again in 2+ years and check. If you cant wait, buy TM2 now or keep playing stadium in silence.
I also have to disagree with you, Tm2 will not be a flop, it will be the opposite, a great sucess ! I know alot of players who didn't know off TM before nations ESWC, alot them bought TMU when it was released but didnt buy sunrise or orignal as they were already in decline. I'm sure there will be alot of nations forever players who didnt buy TMUF but will buy TM2. Combined with the much larger exposure TM2 will have under ubisoft it will not flop. There will be alot of first time trackmania players as well as alot of loyal players from previous games.

TL:DR but please dont make a free to play part. It sucks that everyone in TMU is playing stadium. Its only because they learned how to play that first through the F2P. Now the rest of the game barely gets played in TMU. I wish stadium didn't exist lol.
