I've not said that TM2 will have this "feature", this thread is called "Ubisoft DRM", and I think it should be better in the Offtopic category because that would fits better than in Maniaplanet...
You are the "exception to the rule", don't take it personally

And i think it's on-topic, as the DRM is likely to hit UBI's mainstream games (it states so in the article), so any confirmation and/or hint that it's not going to land on TM2, is relevant to me (and important).

Cheers :geek:

It´s only a few weeks until release. Shouldn´t the DRM of Maniaplanet be already certain?
So, are there any new infos you could share? :)

Yeah, news about this would be nice. I still hope that there will be the simple, but awesome "one key per player".

I agree with you, because Trackmania is all about online play and a copy protection for solo mode isn´t really needed in my opinion.
But another point is the problem with cheaters. I´m no expert, but as far as I know a copy protection is also usefull against cheaters. And as there is only one exe (maniaplanet.exe) as Hylis said, a possible copy protection has to protect TM2, SM and QM together. And FPS like SM are more prone to cheaters than other types.

my english is so poor that i'm not able to traduce all his post, but in summary, Florent said :

Q: DRM or not ?
A : "or not" but you have to play connected to the Nadeo server when you play the solo because of his new features, but you can use whitout connection the editor, LAN, splitscreen, and hotseat.

For the rest, I let the internationnal players traduce better than me

Maniaplanet is a system of networked games like web 2.0, and as such, it is unnecessary to include a DRM. It's been like that for the last five years with TrackMania which has already sold many copies. That's why Nadeo has continued to develop exclusively on PC and we are very happy with our choice today. It allows for high-definition graphics and many extra things, like communication through forums, social networks, fan sites and involvement at all levels: creative, share, organize competitions, dedicated servers etc. We love this truly international platform, where ganes are becoming cheaper and more accessible. In addition, processors are becoming more integrated allowing our games to run very well - it seems to be the beginning of a beautiful period of the game on PC!

In short, things are looking good and we finally got through the turbulence. In addition, we have worked in depth in preparation for the coming years. New blocks will arrive tonight and will be available in the multiplayer beta next week. Graphic designers and programmers continue to correct and improve versions of Storm, details of which are likely to be available in September. We work on the game individually, in groups, splitscreen and LAN. There are still items to be paid for by planets and maniacredits. In short, a lot of work but fun!

And see you soon on the road
A mixture of my terrible French skills and google translate - I'm not sure on the last paragraph and I'm happy to be corrected :)

That is SUCH happy news after hearing about Ubisoft releasing Driver: San Francisco with the Online Services Platform. That was another I was going to pick up after their nice E3 reveal. That one looked pretty cool. Oh well, gives me more time for TM2 where I belong. :pil

NADEO FTW again! I'm glad Ubisoft is letting them run their own show. +1 there.

+1 to thatoneguy's post
im so happy that they have left Nadeo to make the game how they intend and not to add any Ubisoft DRM because if like with Assasins creed 2 you hade to be connected threw UBI all the time i would buy and would download a cracked version and Nadeo would have lost a potential sale
