Hey
I have played TM nations since day 1. I got quite good at it. But now I haven't played it for a while, so I don't really know what the current state of the game is. Is Trackmania 1 still a big name in esports?
Also, what are the plans for trackmania 2 and esports? I cannot find anything about. Only a newspost on Dreamhack for the world's first TM2 tournament (which is just a publicity stunt I guess).
What is your view on Trackmania 2 and esports? Will TM2 be the next big esports racing game? Or do you think that the competition will stay at TM1 and casuals at TM2? I read that there will be new environments released every now and then. I don't think this will help the competition.
Maybe the playerbase will be torn apart and because alot of people will play TM2, and alot of people will stay with TM1 and because of that, trackmania as a esports game just dies completely...
So can anyone shere their views on this subject and update me a little bit? The only reason I'd play trackmania is for the esports.
Thanks

Re: TM2 and esports
<_< Let's not dredge up -this- fight again. The TM-community is not going to splinter. If you're a hardcore Stadium fan, stay with it. I'm sure there will be plenty of tourneys for eSport, because TMNations seems to be geared towards that sort of thing. But TM2 is a -big- deal. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were competitive tourneys hosted using it, as well.

Re: TM2 and esports
I am not trying to start a discussion about communities splitting up. I was just trying to ask a question.
As I said, I only want to know the current state of the game as I have been away from Trackmania a while. I am not a diehard TM1 fan who does not want to switch to TM2. In fact, I saw gameplay movies of TM2, and I think it looks and plays great. But there is just no reason for me to switch to TM2 if it's not geared towards esports (and I mean like competitions at WCG like TM1 has).

Re: TM2 and esports
From what I gathered : Nations will still be used in eSports as it is now, and Nadeo will not try to push people away from it, or try to force TM² as the new reference for competitions.
However, they are confident that there will be competitions on TM² too.
So only time will tell, but for the time being maybe you're better off staying on TMN and you'll see later if TM² is adopted by the community (I hope it will, but that reminds me of Quake 3, which was waaay better than Quake 4 as far as esports are concerned, and eventually became quake live while Q4 slowly died)

o_O Are you serious? You're asking about TMN on the dedicated TM2/SM/QM forum, and you're thinking that the spirit has gone away? That's kinda like asking why there are no more Star Wars movies on a Star Trek forum. (without the nerd rageBarryBalhaar wrote:Not much replies. The problem is that a lot of Trackmania players are casual players the commitment of esports, even for good players, is too great for a casual game.

Maybe you should read my post again. I was not asking about TMN...Trackmaniack wrote:o_O Are you serious? ) Anyway, there are still at last count, nearly 15 -million- TMN players. That number speaks for itself. There is still plenty of life in Trackmania Forever, and there's no reason you can't own, and play, both games, ya know? TMN isn't so horrendous that I'd never want to play it again...

Many people still play TMNF in LAN esport competitions; this is not likely to change in the future, short term. TMNF was built to be an e-sport game.
TMUF was never big for professional esports, but thanks to ET, it has a dedicated online following even without the LAN events.
It is too early to tell how popular TM2 Canyon will be for esports.
It is far too early to tell how good other unreleased TM2 environments will be for epsorts.
Whilst I respect that everyone has a free choice to decide why they would want to play a game, I find it strange that you would only want to play if a game will be a professional esport game. If the only reason you play is for esports, then at this stage I would practice to be really good at stadium. However, be aware that maybe 50 people in the world are good enough out of a pool of ~14 million players. Good luck.
If by esports you mean competitive competitions at all levels, then I am sure that TM2 will cater for your needs.
