Early Day reviews

Post by Kamakaze133 »

Ok so seeing that many people including myself are having trouble purchasing the game from the TM website, then to the people who have it installed on their computer and have played it, please tell us what you think of TM2 and maybe give us a quick review :D

Cheers!

It's....ok.

Same game with a slightly prettier face.
Nothing life changing.

Note: This is almost certainly at least partly because of the more or less total absence of good tracks ATM.

I was lucky enough to get a download after trying for 2 hours.

I am loving what I've seen so far...

Pros:
- Powerdrifting!
- good car control
- Beautiful graphics
- cool track pieces
- Quick loading tracks
- Familiar setup

Cons:
- Sometimes hard to know where to go, the visual cues aren't the best
- I am getting some bad stutter in certain areas, even with opponents turned off (i7-920, nvidia 285GTX, 6gb ram, vista 64)
- It's not Stadium (damn, I am used to that car) :)
- Cannot stabalize in the air by tapping break

That's all I have so far.. back in!....

Ok. Having played tmn eswc / tmuf for about 6 years, I have always loved stadium. The feel of drifting is just beautiful. I was very excited that TM2 was coming out.

SO my thoughts in Tm2:

Beautiful graphics.

'bugging out' seems to be incredibly well thought about this time around. (stadium, especially on loops and dropping down onto other parts of track, we all are used to the bugs that happen) This seems very clean in TM2. Looping is veeeeeery smooth.

The speed = wow. That really is amazing, you are in for a treat if you are big into FS. Ive never seen a racing game look so ridiculously fast.

The drifitng = Interstingly different, but the physics just seem too sketchy for me, but hey.. its meant to be different. We all knew this.
-----------------------------------------
My honest feelings after 3 hours of play:

I can already see it will not be holding me much, yes its completely different physics to stadium of course, which I have grown to love so much that it'll be hard to just switch from spending all my game time on TM2 rather than TMUF. The physics of stadium just captivate me so much and always will for a racing game, but TM2 brings a very new fun factor still though. I believe most casual nf players will absolutely love TM2, a lot of the hardcore stadium players may just play it casually though, like me.

I'll stick to my stadium roots :)

Better than stadium for everyone. I love fullspeed but after a while it's ALL the same dang track. At least in this environment it's slightly different each time. More variety. Also looks insane!

There's going to be a new genre too as well, drift tracks. Tracks meant just for drifting the entire time, or near it. I can see it now! (i hope this genre comes to life!)

For my time playing everything's been rock solid. Not to well optmized, but i have not lagged on a phenom 920 and gtx 260 216 core at near max 1680 1050 res.

Hmm, I'm running on an e8400 @ 3.5 ghz, with an OC'd GTX 260 (non core), on Very Nice setting @ 1920x1200, and it's totally smooth.

Pros:
Nice graphics, track pieces
Handling feels good
Incorporating drifting as an important element of cornering is fun

Cons:
No Platform or Puzzle events ;)
Lots of very short tracks (0:45-ish) atm, but that will change
No splash when landing in water :P

Potential improvement:
Could use more scenic tile elements, like waterfalls from cliffs, brush growing on side of cliffs

As a seasoned stadium racer I am taking some time getting used to this, and I'm not too sure that I like it.
I'm finding it way too fast for my liking and the car physics are awkward.

Also getting occasional stutter on Phenom X4 955 and GTX560ti.

Now if they'd just bring out Trackmania 2 Stadium....
