Network issues

Can anyone give me any ideas how to sort out lag issues with the game?

I have open the ports in my router, forwarded them to my IP and also open the ports in windows Firewall but I still have some very noticable lag issues with the other cars? Its not an internet issue as I play other games online and have no lag issues at all. I have a pretty stable 8mb ADSL2 connection so I dont think this is the issue.
I occationally get a message in TM2 saying something along the lines of "Falling back to UDP, please change network settings to improve performance" but im not sure what else I can do!

Also many of the other player cars appear grey as if thier skins are not loading.
