Frustrations and limitations

Post by Fijut »

hello, i'm still new to this but i managed to build my first track, although the editor seems horribly limited.

Some things frustrated me though and i just wondered if i was doing things wrong... perhaps?

First of all... do we start off with all the available tools and blocks or can we unlock more somehow? It seems like there is a lot missing compared to the tracks i've already played.

Secondly... is there a way to vertically rotate things? Rotation around the z axis and even being able to turn the grid off and rotate pieces at whatever angle you like would be great... but apparently this isn't possible.

My biggest problem however, and sorry if i cannot describe it very well, is the "Connector" system when building tracks. Why, even if i'm building a simple, flat piece of track, can I for some reason I NOT ADD A RIGHT TURN [ or any other piece of track the game happens to decide] , just because the little "red connectors" do not line up? What crazy idea is this? How can i make an original track if there are only so many combinations anyway?

I hope someone can offer me some advice... especially with the last problem.

Simple. I bet you opened the simple track editor.

Make a new track and select advanced editor, I'm sure it will clear things up about the editor's possibilities.

The connectors as you call them describe what the end of the block looks like(at the transition from one block to the next). As you appearently did not notice the GP blocks are not symmetrical to the sides, they are either oriented to the right or to the left what is indicated by the red marker. About all blocks are available in both ways you just have to check them all and see which is the right one in your case. There are also transition blocks from right to left oriented.
I dont have a screenshot right now but just take the simple straight GP block place it, turn it 2 times(180°) and place it next to the previous one, you will see that they are not symmetrical and would not match with the side where the connectors are even if you were able to place it there.

I hope you understand what I mean somehow xD

I did notice, thank you. ^^

Use the block 1-1-8 and 1-1-9.

But there is only one version of each block. What i would like, is a mirrored version of each block so it would fit, but there is none.

What is a transisiton block, anyway?

And yes, i am using the advanced editor

Keras gave you the best advice. Try to place each block, and rotate them each time to make sure the connectors match.

There are, I will try to give you an example:
1-1-5 and 1-1-7 are both 1x1 corners just with the connectors switched.
For simple slopes it would be 1-3-1 and 1-3-2.

The transition blocks are 1-1-8, 1-1-9, 1-3-3 and 1-3-4.
