"Planets" What are they?

It's nice to see a game that is not "noob friendly" for once.

I see a lot of discussion on "Planets" and i was just awarded some in game, but what are they? How do I earn them Where can i see how many I have? It is not displayed in the Profile menu in game or anywhere on my online player page.

Planets are ingame currency like Coppers in previous TM titles. They are displayed on the top of your screen ingame and you can earn them in various ways (on everyday basis, by driving official races, reaching 1000 LP etc)

They are mostly used to "buy" cars models, car skins, horns, maps/mods from other players. It's a way to reward people creating content/helping the community. Most manialing also have a donate button or such.

In fact, planets are kind of "ladder points" for creators : the best creator you are, the more planets you have ^_^.
