Is there LAN Play ability?

Post by warezmonkey »

A group of friends and I love to have LAN parties still. It seems these are going the way of the Dinosaurs as game companies are progressively moving towards online only so people can be loners in their basement.

I haven't been able to find any info on the TrackMania 2 multiplayer and it's stance on LAN play. Can someone please tell me if 12 of my mates and I will be able to play in my basement if we all buy the game and play over a local network?

We have a LAN party scheduled for October 1st and TM United is on our list of games, but it'd be nice to instead play the newest version.

Thanks!

...but apparently you'll have to buy it 12 times, as offline profiles with the same maniaplanet account are apparently not possible.

Yes but you didn't used to have to do that - you could just play in offline mode with different profiles. I can understand that the developers want to make some money, but it seems a bit too much in this example. They should have left it the way it was. In Offline LAN mode they're not using the same value so they shouldn't have to pay for it multiple times.

It doesn't work like that. It says you need an online account for every profile you have, and you can't be logged in on more than 1 pc even in your own home LAN

I'm not making any threats or anything so don't take me the wrong way:
Under fair-use policy in most countries, family is allowed to use a persons legally purchased product, say like, my brother can read my books.
Why is it not acceptable to install TM2 on two home computers and use 1 account to play Lan. It is effectively the same as split screen, just bigger screens for each player.
So I ask why you have made it hard to do this, family members use my account all the time and I have 3 brothers so split screen makes the keyboard very... crowded.
Obviously if two people were to play then one would use their online account and the other would have to use an offline account, maybe make it so at least one online account is in the lan party, or online account must host.

Please
Do not feed the trolls or they will poo on you
