[Maniaplanet] calendar

Post by tcq »

What about an ingame calendar, that pops up each time you start the game and where you can add manialinks/servers or competitions, in which you like to take part. So you can't forget stuff.
For myself i need such a thing, else i forget so many things.

Yep.. It would also be cool if you mark events and name them so, you won't forget anything.. And when the day comes it would be good a kind of warning :D :)

It seems a good idea. You could have 7 boxes for the 7 coming days on the top of the window (or anywhere else, but the top feels nice for me ^^), with the pop-up that repeats the events for today only. Maybe a hidden part that you can open shows you all the dates for the next month / 2 months ? => several levels of proximity then.

Imho, the great deal is to establish who can write in your calendar, and who can't. If too many people can do it, the calendar may become a new space for advertising and flooding, which makes no sense with maniapub already existing. If too few can do it, you may miss some important events.

I think at least your teammates or groupmates (if you belong to a group in TM) should be enabled to do it. (Example : the team captain adds the next match in all his teammates' calendars)

The major organisations such as competitions organisers should probably be enabled to do it also, but only for their followers. For instance, you need to get the registrations deadlines for a competition only if you lead your team. Thus, you can decide to follow ET, the ESL, any other organization, or not to follow it/them. The same works probably for TMX, Carpark, or any community website : you can follow TMX if you upload/downlod maps or replays there, you may not follow it otherwise.

But i would clearly try to limit how many persons can add dates to my calendar. One event per day is really too much.

It is a nice idea but i doubt that it will make it into the game.
Maybe someone can make a ManiaLink with this idea...

One thing that would make it a more tempting feature for ingame, is to integrate it with the team/group functions ...so when you add a competition your group see's the date added and can keep tabs on it that way. This will make it less cumbersome and more usefull..

for example ...i click dr-ukr group and the calendar shows plus the sp and lp listings next to it ... with all dates and birthdays added from the team in the group.

Then maybe furthering that into zones? so that i can click london, and see competitions and birthdays in the area posted by people only in that group, could make for an interesting social element if made with a little care. :D

The problem with a manialink, is that you need to browse it. For idiots like me, it's not a good solution, because i am willing to forget the manialink as much as i forget the dates.

Yes, it would be great. I just hope this message of Hylis doesn't mean we can only dream ^^

I was invisioning this being in the game GUI personally, like in solo where you enter and the Group/Location scoretable is up .. on the right there somewhere (if in the current GUI) would be awesome.

As for the seperate EXE i would say just a tickbox when joining a group to say "share calendar entries with this group" would suffice nicely.

I would be impressed if they could get this embedded in the ingame GUI rather than leaving it to a detached manialink or website/server based system (being detached and having many clicks to get to it will make it not worth the effort)...it would be handy for many people and be a very nice social integration
(after all TMU was the new web2.0 era and advertised itself as such, so why not go for 3.0? :D )

I hope this can be done ...

You know, as sad as it sounds they introduced such a system in Word of warcraft and it worked great, it was great to get that extra info on up and coming event throughout the year and for guild raids it was great for making solid groups in time..... though my sadness addiction has been curbed by lack of funding so i think i may be excused for playing such a controversial game
