[TM2] - Cannot connect to the server (12029)

Hello everyone,


I'm having an annoying problem. I just received the game as a gift, installed it, ran it and right when the game starts to try the 1st connection, an error appears saying "Cannot connect to the server (12029)".
I saw previous posts of this, refering several "pseudo-solutions" envolving Internet Explorer and many more issues, but I have a friend who lives in Lisbon, Portugal and he can access the game with no problems.
Are the master servers down or something?

Check your host file in windows (You can find his location here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file)

Then put this file in editable mode (right click on this file => uncheck the hut read-only).
You need to remove these ligns (if it appears)

127.0.0.1 mp01.maniaplanet.com
127.0.0.1 mp03.maniaplanet.com
127.0.0.1 game.maniaplanet.com

You save your new files and recheck the hut read-only.


Now try to connect to ManiaPlanet.

Hello, i have looked into my system32 folder as well for the 64bit. And i do not have a hosts file in both of them.
What can i do at this point?

I have been there. There is no such file as "hosts"
To my understanding that is the file i need to look for?
Or do i need to create a file myself?

Edit: This is my first time on this forum, and i noticed that the servers are down, and that they are aware of it.
Maybe this is the reason i cant connect.

That is file which one you can open with notepad, strange you haven't it in there...

My problem is solved and yes, it was the hosts file

but now i do not have sound..... strange.
