TM Community: Where will it go?

Post by SamuraiRacer »

Hello all :)

As a long time player and fan of Trackmania, I have experienced the evolution of this fantastic game first-hand. From TM Original, to the recent TM Wii. In my opinion, one of the greatest things about TM is the community. Trackmania-Carpark, TMMOD, Trackmania Exchange, TM-Tube... theese are what the community is made of! They have made it possible to modify your experience in the game in infinite ways. Now, with Maniaplanet, we will have skins, tracks, and even the community in one place. My point is, what is going to happen to theese sites once ManiaPlanet is in it's final phase? I am one of those people who think that big companies ruin everything. Do not get me wrong, I like the ManiaPlanet idea, but what will happen to the original TM community once Maniaplanet arrives? And if it shuts down, Will Trackmania become another "corporite hostile takeover" story?

I really don't know, which is why I turn this question over to you :D

Cheers,
SamuraiRacer

some might turn into manialinks but not all i guess.

Some have really defined ways of gathering and sharing info as others provide info.

Hope alot of sites stay in the air just as a first hand share and not as backups.

Some have already planned ahead, TMC for one has become Mania Creative, this "Mania" thing will catch on (hopefully  ).

I wouldn't worry about it though (at least for now), as most will still stay behind and play TMUF or TMNF.

I hope no. I like to access them with my browser, i find it makes less constraints than to have them ingame. For instance, i can download a mod on TM-Mod while playing or making a map in TM. When you download something on a manialink... Ahem... Great, you wait and you watch the download stripe progress during 20 minutes :grrrr:

More, i don't really like the current coppers economy... If someone wants to make a virtual business with his TM creations, i don't really mind. But i want to have all my creations (moslty maps) available for everybody, for free, with a simple interface such as a website. I think TMX is the most efficient way to do it nowadays, and the manialinks have to considerably improve to stand up the comparison atm.
