It has been removed from recent version of FFDshow because it was not up to date.
If you want to encode in mpeg4, get xvid, or x264-vfw if you want to use H264.

It's great quality/size ratio for storage but not ideal for editing though. Most video editing programs struggle with MPEG4 video. No wonder Vegas crashes.
Video editing programs prefer codecs without compression across time, so that any frame can be accessed directly.
The ideal would be to use a professional codec designed for editing but those costs hundreds of dollars.
A good and free format would be to use the MJPEG codec included with ffdshow for editing.

The drawback is that at max quality, ffdshow's MJPEG is lower quality than Xvid. But it's a nice intermediate codec for editing :
keep your high quality xvid rushes, and make copies at 1/2 resolution with MJPEG.
Edit your video with MJPEG so that it's fast, easy on performance and with very little crashes, and then when you have finished, exchange the files with the higher quality ones for the final render. (if Vegas struggles with the Xvid files, convert them temporarely to a free loss-less format like Lagarith or HuffYUV (takes a lot of disc space)

Thanks for the tips BlackShark :)
Usually I save uncompressed and encode it in H.264 .mkv with MeGUI , but got error with the uncompressed one from TM² o.O
Well, gonna try this.
