Possible to re-create official maps with editor?

Post by TheKojukinator »

Hi All,

I've been playing around for a few hours now with the advanced editor and really love what's possible. However I'm a little disappointed with the amount of "vertical" possibility. For example, I see that the only real loop blocks are the huge cement ones - also, I tried to find a way to separate the bottom and top piece with more height (possibly introducing a flat vertical wall between them) but did not find any suitable blocks. I think one of the Red tracks I played has a narrow canyon loop, that's totally awesome - I don't see any method to recreate that in the editor :(

I also wish there were pieces that twisted, kind of like rollercoasters do - I wanted to have a half complete loop spit the car out at the top but also flip it over to land properly and the only way it "may" be possible is to place some mid-air blocks to "graze" and with some skill possibly re-orient the car. That's cool and all, but is a little limiting - maybe I'm not using my imagination enough, but I'll keep experimenting.

With the lack of vertical, or near vertical, walls we also lack boosts with those orientations - I'm sad :(

All in all, I think I'm observing that there are some kinds of tracks I'm not able to create in the editor even though I've raced them in the official solo races - bummer.

Any feedback appreciated :)

There are vertical blocks for those concrete loopings

I'll take a closer look when I get home, I don't recall what block I tried using to build a wall.. but I DID build some kind of a vertical. However when I test drove it I realized it wasn't quite a seamless transition to/from the loop pieces, and also it has a divider in the middle (maybe I just flipped it backwards... was hard to tell the orientation).

All those pieces you are missing are in there somewhere, just look harder :p
The rollercoaster thing is impossible since such a block would not be drivable in any way (we are not driving on rails here)

The loop extender is easy to find, but you have to orient it right. The thin loop piece has to be attached to a cliff-side, so it's in the narrow track on cliff-side section.

That's the one, but you did have it backwards. The correct side looks exactly the same as the concrete loops.

The big loop is in the set of cliffside pieces, but it is really quite useless because it is mostly luck based.

A corkscrew block would be impossible because you would fly into the air no matter on which side of the road you drive.

Thanks guys, I played around for a few more hours last night and found the canyon loop among the lower green track pieces. It looks like you can only use it on the lowest elevation, but it is indeed there.

I'm going to soak in all these blocks and test drive a few choice combinations as I create a mental grand schematic for some tracks I'd like to race.
