Crashes with DX 9 error message

I have installed the optional update as previously my game was randomly crashing but remained running in the background and I had to ctrl-alt-del in order to close it down.

However now it still crashes but this time with a DX 9 error box .

I am running Win 7 64 Bit
Direct X 11
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Ram 4MB
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450

Try
1. reinstalling DirectX
2. Disabling "Direct3DX" or how its called in the launcher under Graphics -> Compatibility

Not sure how I would reinstall Direct X, when I tried downloading the latest version via MS and installed it told me mine was the latest version and exited. Searching for a solution to that suggested that uninstalling was not an option.

I have unticked d3d9ex in the configuration and so far that seems to have worked.

Ok I spoke to soon now I get crashes with some sort of display kernel error.

Did you two update your video drivers to the latest (WHQL!) version?
