[TM2] [PERFORMANCE] - Intel 915GV chip set

Post by chazmaniac »

I am upgrading from TM Nations to TM-2 Canyon and need a new PC with a video card that supports it.

I am looking for something cheap and found a Dell Dimension E310 (DV051).

This PC uses the Intel 915GV chip set. Here is a URL that has info on this chip:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets

Will it work with TM-2 Canyon?

I've tried to figure this out on my own and have finally given up.

Thanks, Chaz

sorry, but this will not be good enough, it has "Integrated GMA 900".
This means 3D performance is less than poor, and it uses part of the regular system memory.
You will never be happy with it unless you are willing to play max 1024x768 with very low details.
You better take a dedicated video adapter that has an own memory.
How much can you afford?

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply!

The E310 has an empty PCI-express slot and a 230W power supply so I was thinking of getting it for $60.

Then I only need to buy the PCI-express Graphics card and perhaps 2GB of memory (since it only has 512MB).

Would this work? Here are the specs for the E310:

This question can be closed since it doesn't look like I'll be able to find the correct graphics card for the E310 since it is so old.

Not only this, the PCIe slot is only 1x, this means you won't get the real performance of the video card with this system.
At least 8x is recommended.

You could still try, but the result might be frustrating...
