I have to agree with TM above... getting the line is far more vital than knowing when to hit the A key. I've managed to pull down some pretty good times in Solo by tracking the ghosts of people who post insanely good times, and learning how they make the flow of the track work for them - even managed to beat a few.
This is not question which is more important, or selection which feature should be available. This is addition. Something that you would turn on if you wish. Before posting this whole thing, I asked on servers if this would hurt competitive players and response was that it would not, so I don't see any drawbacks.
Yea, I can see where you are coming from now and certainly no harm in adding things that help improve the skills ... anything to help :)

Wouldn't be too hard to show it. Only need 2 circles (1 green, 1 red) for gas and brake, and a bar with a line in the middle that adjusts left/right according to how much they are turning.
So, how would seeing this benefit a keyboarder? For example, here is what you might see for someone negotiating a turn (over the course of, say, 2 seconds?)

Code: Select all

Learn how to tap your keys to make the turn work, or follow someone else who is racing with a keyboard. There's no way to have a system accurate enough to show turning for controller and keyboard users.

There is no reason to implement this since you can already see which keys are being pressed, since each key makes something happens in the game...

TIP: In case you don't know how to do something in game, it probably requires using the brake.

Its an interesting idea however a small point that seems to be missed no two drivers are the same so how one driver drives is totally different even though they may have very similar similar runs the may have used totally different key strokes or controller inputs.

As the point was made before you learn more watching how the better player place there vehicles in relation to the track to get the better times, also nothing beats thee old theory and that is dowload the track and practice practice and more practice. :D

Both statements are incorrect.

Hi,

People won't have _totally_ different keystrokes unless there is a shortcut in the map or the other player is alot slower. The longer this game is out, the more similar fast players get.

The practise practise practise method is relevant when you know what you are doing, or atleast supposed to be doing. Obviously you can get good by simply learning everything your self, but idea of this feature is to speed up the progress.

If I know both, the path player drives, and strenght of the drift at different points of the corner, I will drive the corner faster than only knowing the path and start guessing game what kind of turn is the best. If I see some localrecord top 10 dude driving and watch him, I can say to my self "Alright this is the correct way to drive"

I'd like to draw your attention to the game and video I have posted to you.

It's someone making a lap of the Gran turismo Track "High Speed Ring" In Gran Turismo 2. But it's not the Track, the car or the game that is important here, nor is it the time. It's the little sliders and bars at the bottom.

On gran turismo 2, whenever viewing a replay (either your own or a ghost of the gold medal time in the license races) you see these car stats on the hud down below. These note Throttle/Brake and Turning Values. See how small they are. and for me, so valuable.

I managed to get the S license by observing those values. I broke records by observing those values. And even though i knew the line through the track. If i did not pay attention to those values, I would have gone off the track and failed the license test.

I'm not saying something of intricacy is needed but perhaps at least a keyboard UDLR/WASD layout with a left/right analog steering line and 2 Accel Brake Lines. Something like this

Image

All keys can flash one color if they want to. I Just added 3 different colors so you'd know which color corresponds to which detail :) but you get the point. and it's nice and compact too. (what's shown there is what i do when I drift at full speed, probably the pants way of doing it but i never claimed to know how to drive on TM, i only claimed this could be done :roflol:)

thanks for reading and sorry for the crude picture.

I like how you listed your reasons and your arguments(quite a lot)

Up arrow key: Accelerates
Left arrow key: Turns left
Right arrow key: Turns right
Down arrow key: Desaccelerates and turn brake lights on
Releasing Up arrow key: Desaccelerates (without turning brake lights on)
Num 0: Sound the horn

So, which key can't you see it's being pressed?

By the way, the second statement was a joke, retard.

Hi,

No need to call names. You can't see turn timing when the car is in air.
