mmm you're right, and i think is beautiful as it is, but for sure, with animated objects (like trains for this posts) each map should be more scenic, even without touching the gameplay! I've mentioned trains, but it could be also explosions on a block side and fog to go through. Waterfalls, ecc ecc :)

Sure, but in this case they are user made mods.

Yes Monster Truck Madness 2. But this is Trackmania.
And more than a decade later...
That old MTM/MTM2 track editor was awesome. You could modify terrain corners, not just terrain squares, so a narrow ridge was completely possible. Also, instead of being limited to angular tracks, the "road" was a combination of textures (from a huge library or user-created) and AI paths so you could make a track in any shape you wanted. To create skyscrapers or bridges, you could associate two height values with each square (on a 255x255 grid) and the game would create a cube for you between the lower and the higher height value. You could texture that cube, too. Actual objects were either solid or moveable and could be placed anywhere, not just aligned to a grid. There were fun tricks, like placing an obstacle in the air and gravity would only take hold after the first truck touched that square and pull it down, giving players at the back of the pack either a ramp to a new shortcut or an RV on the head. The best part: the game engine was based on the Terminal Velocity/Hellbender engine so if you owned those games you now had thousands of new textures and lots of objects.

The Need for Speed 1 track editor (1995) let you bend and twist the ribbon track in any direction and the scenery (attached to the side of the track) would deform accordingly. You could overwhelm it by creating ridiculous jumps and there was a bug with banked turns in point to point races (the sky would turn with your car) but you could make whatever you wanted in terms of track layout. Of course, '95 style scenery is no longer acceptable, however the concept would make for an awesome space racer. Think Audiosurf with actual cars and a track editor.

Gripped Offroad (1998) let you modify terrain corners like MTM2, but it also had an actual track loop ribbon that could be pulled around by placing control points, bezier curve style. Instead of those cubes, you could detach vertexes and create square buildings that way (though no bridges). The AI would learn it automatically, which did mean you couldn't place obstacles on the track, and it wasn't exactly the best game for a track editor because jumps tended to wreck your car.

Step it up Nadeo! :|

It would be nice to not only trains, but planes and perhaps a busy motorway where it should be cautious when crossing. Or there was the possibility of the creator of the track to put fighter planes to fly over the track (Indy style) using the MediaTracker? It is exaggeration to say that, but would not be too mad?
This unfortunately results in a lot of work for Nadeo.

It would be nice, but I don't think we'll ever see something similar!

Trains lol
i said this months ago before tm2 came out, somewhere else in the forums...it could be done as a stand still thing,
be nice having train tracks across the road and maybe the train standing near the crossing..
or even a old cowboy town like a ghost town

:)

1. create a train model (either just a whole train or one train ad wagons)
2. do a mod of one block which you would like to use as a train route
3. do the moving train via MT effects (imported ghosts and clever build triggers)

There you go. And if you like MTM2 so much, go and play it.

Take a look at Jetlag by GSP for TMU. There you got your planes.

Yes the map need more movement! I will sure love trains, waterfalls and Sand Storms? :P

Also rain and thunder, I always wanted this on TM2, but not handling differences, just raindrops and some lightnings, just imagine how badass a race with some lightnings hitting the floor! That will be freaky and awesome :D
