OS on new SSD, how to make game work now? more inside thx

Post by 1D3R »

Hi, I recently install new SSD changing sata to AHCI < I believe that is correct. its now drive C

the drive with TM2 installed (old OS drive) is now letter E

the launcher will come up when executed off the E drive but game will not start.

I have used the "help" button on launcher and linked the two locations for files to note drive letter E vice drive letter C, at the beginning of location string.

is there simply something else I have to move or can do? short of a reinstall that is? as I don't know how to go about obtaining the game download exe without paying again, I'm certainly NOT going to pay again.

it should be noted I'd like to keep my C drive OS only with all else installed to drive letter E.

is there some sort of settings file that needs edited ?

any help with this will be GREATLY APPRECIATED. thank you ;)

ProgramData\ManiaPlanet and My Documents\ManiaPlanet need to be in C. The main executable can be anywhere
You could of course use symbolic links to have both these folders outta the SSD

thanks for the reply metoxys :)

can you expound a bit on this ?

not familiar with symbolic links . took a quick look at MS site about such links, but I'm still unclear. would you be so kinds as to post how they should be and where they are to be placed? my preference is to NOT have them (game folders usually on C: on the SSD (C:) drive at all and remain in the E: drive , using these symbolic links you speak of.

I thank you for your time.

Peace ;)

Because those folders get accessed pretty often I recommend using symbolic links. That means that the respective folders that are supposed to be in C will be on E, but linked to C.

You open cmd and write for example:
c:\>mklink "C:\Users\1D3R\Documents\ManiaPlanet" "E:\ManiaPlanet\Documents"

This will create an artificial ManiaPlanet\Documents folder on E. Everything that is in the ManiaPlanet folder will be in E. So, all the data. Also repeat the process for C:\ProgramData\ManiaPlanet

well I gave it a go, but no luck :(

cmd.exe was ran as admin, tried as u posted with only USER being changed to Chaz, which is the actual use name. and after trying several times all I would come up with was, firstly "access denied" and lastly "can not create a file when file already exists"

I am at a loss

here is the input:
C:\Users\Chaz>mklink "C:\Users\Chaz\Documents\ManiaPlanet" "E:\ManiaPlanet\Documents"

i've tried with and without quotes even placing the /D after mklink in the string.

I found a handy littel app called "directory linker" that does this cmd prompt stuff for you. and after using it, in both locations on the C drive it shows the shortcut link at both locations, I click shortcut and it says its on C.

again , to be clear the game was installed on my old C, OS drive, which is now tagged as E drive.

after all this the game window (from launcher) comes up for like 2 secs and then close. under HELP in the launcher I indicated to launcher that the two data folders in question are on the drive E locations as well.

feeling rather inept and bummed at my inability to get this game to work  :(

Hi 1der

Just a thought... Try just reinstalling the last update only
this may overwrite your install with any incorrect paths from the renaming of the hard drive.
without having to reinstall the whole game

You can get it here
http://files.maniaplanet.com/2012-01-09 ... _Setup.exe
good luck

High-O rickster, I will give it a go. worth a shot

nope no dice Rick , sadly enough.

I also look back through my mail and look at download link the give for the 'downloader" and the link is no longer valid.

FFS this is starting to really irk me, I paid for the game and can't even download it to reinstall, this sux big time.

makes me wanna head over to the nadeo TM forum and see what i can do to get TMF up and running again :(

second edit: was going through my email for trackmania, maniaplanet related stuffs and came across the free 3 day pass email from maniaplanet. so at current I entered the code given to d/l the game. 2 files one ManiaPlanetCanyon_setup.exe just over 1 MB and ManiaPlanetCanyon_Setup-1.bin at 1.1GB, this surely should allow me to install the game as I wish on my E drive, using the game purchase code I originally got (vice the 3 day key) and all should be good. we shall see, in a few hours time.

my only summation has to be that there has good to be maniaplanet related files somewhere else besides the 3 main folder locations. .... or perhaps a registry file? seems rather wacky to this ol' boy.

btw when the hell is a new enviro coming out for this? every time I have asked, it gets farther and farther away. first it was by xmas 2011, then march and last I heard was July, a whole year later after canyon. although I enjoy playing canyon enviro, I personally feel disappointed going from the 7 enviro of TMF to one enviro for a whole year, and the small number of players online at any given time seem to echo my disappointment..

I can only imagine the hoops I would have to jump through to get TMF reinstalled without paying for the game again, which I will NOT be doing under any circumstance. but I almost be willing to bet money that TMF or united as u may call it, has just as many players as TM2 canyon has, actually playing the game.

hopefully RICK I'll be seeing you on track shortly , fingers crossed.

appreciate the effort all the same RIck . I check file size of the d/l via the player page( believe it or not I have not looked at my player page at all lol) I see they say its actually just be undated. the file is exactly the same size 1.1 GB so I will continue with teh current d/l under an hour to go if that fails to work I'll d/l via the player page. thanks again brother , Peace ;)

for shits and giggles I'm also re d/l tmunited setup, I will have to install that first then the TMF installer ( one witch you hve to have united installed first. hope I can get game up and running as well, it'll be nice having the option of 7 enviro again.

so thanks once again metoxys and broric RICK      regardless of what worked or didn't work, you guys took the time to help , its much appreciated. :1010

Peace
