Can't activate online account

Just downloaded TrackMania 2 on my computer after purchasing it and had some problems activating the account. I installed it fine and launched it without a hitch either, but once it tried to verify my connection, that's when problems started occurring. For some reason, it's trying to use a dial-up connection even though I use fibre optics, and I can't seem to make it so it connects through my fibre optics network. Not sure whether or not it's because of my computer or an error in installing etc but it's starting to annoy me.

"You are not online"
"You will not be able to connect to an account and use all of the game features"
"We recommend you connect to the internet now"
Kind of a wishy-washy problem, since I'm not 100% sure what's causing it, but it can't connect me to the online features.

I tried to redownload the trackmania forever and the same problem occurs. Keeps trying to connect to me via a dial-up even though that's not my means of internet connection.

The online features for both games don't work, but only the offline features of the original track mania forever work and the trackmania 2 canyon offline features won't work until I "connect to the internet at least once to activiate your account and install the title"
