Rendering clips

I don't understand why clips cannot be edited as standalone replays.

I want to take multiple clips from four levels and string them together.

I can do this in moviemaker. I just don't want to render 25 replays.

I found the "editing block" thing discussed in other threads. I know how to export my clips.

Using them is another matter.

Is there a third party editor? A better tutorial?

Bottom line: I want to clip 5 seconds here, 8 seconds there, 12 seconds from another reply, etc., etc. Rendering each clip and string them together in moviemaker is the ultimate goal.
