The server problems of the Clanpage should not influence the Tetris Manialink at all, as they are both hosted on independent servers. I don't know what could have been the problem yesterday... Might also have been a Master Server fault (at least that is what I commonly assume when the Buddylist or the Manialink codes are mosfunctional) ^^

Tetris Update: New Highscore System

After more than two weeks I was finally able to complete the new Highscore system and to upload it in the Tetris Manialink. As already announced, each player is now able to only have at maximum one Highscore per mode, so that the amount of Highscores has decreased a lot. A consequence is, that you now need to break your old Highscore to be able to save it.

Additional Changes:
  • Change in the Engine: Now you are able to longer move your block when it reached the bottom of the field. So it should be a little easier to push it down to the side on faster speed.
  • Some parts of the Tetris-Engine have been optimized. I don't know if this is noticable in a better performance, though.
  • The Shoutbox now displays some tips, describing the features of it a little. There may be more tips in the future to the Tetris Manialink itself and its mode.
  • The error handling has been improved: If the ManiaScript fails to compile (due to e.g. an error in a script), it now prints a nice message to the user, giving advices on what to do next. Additionally, the Manialink now checks the version of the client, and informs you if you need to update it (this was a bit buggy before, leading e.g. in an endless redirection if the client version was too old ^^)

As always, have fun on the Tetris ManiaLink, and don't forget to donate some Planets (though I do not really know what to do with them xD )

I must say, it was quite a different view off the highscores all in a sudden :D

And another Update has been uploaded to the Tetris Manialink. This time, next to internal changes, you get a brand new mode to play in:
  • Pressure -- There will be errors...
    Features -- Preview: 1 Block -- Hold Block: Yes -- Limit: None

    The Pressure mode is basically the same as the Endurance one, with the difference, that you start with the half of the field already filled. Oh, and each 10 blocks played, a new incomplete line will appear on the bottom of the field. How calm will you stay, if you see the end getting nearer, as you are not able to clean up the mess fast enough?
    Hint: In this mode, the falling blocks will not speed up with time. Instead the number of blocks, after which a new line appears, will decrease. So this mode challenges your Puzzle skills more than anything else ;)

I want to mention another change in the Tetris engine:
If you have built a complete line, it will highlight in white as it was before. But now, the next block will appear after this full line has been removed. (Until now, the next block came immediately, and the full line has been removed afterwards.) This change was important to avoid some strange issues in the Pressure mode ^^


Have fun with the new Pressure mode, and maybe you will find the time to give some feedback to it or the Manialink in general ;)

Ever thought about an update of the high scores so that always the actual used nicks are shown?

If you changed your nickname, either saving a new Highscore, saving your options, or clicking on the "This is not me" link in the menu will bring your new nick in the Tetris database. (These actions use ManiaConnect to authenticate your account, obtaining your current nickname as side effect.)

Tetris will (currently) not re-request any player data for its own.
The thought behind this behavior was: If a player is no longer active on Tetris (thus never save a new Highscore, his or her options or manually click on "This is not me"), why should Tetris bother with keeping his or her nickname up-to-date? (This was, of course, before the change of the Highscore system, when it was quite easier to actually save a new Highscore.)

is there some trick in high speed mode? top score seems unreachable.

100% concentration ;)

There is a point, where the blocks will no longer speed up. So if you do not make any mistakes after this point, you may go on forever ;) (On the other hand, the smallest mistake will be your gameover, as you won't have the chance to fix it. epi is a very talented Tetris addict ;))

No, I mean 75 lines mode.
I think I play with perfect strategy for this mode. Correct me if I am wrong.
I clear always 4 lines at time (best score per line ratio). Except once i clear 2 lines, so at some point I have 1 line left, and can clear 4 lines getting 78 lines total.
Before clearing last 4 lines i fill almost whole field (you get 5 point by piece placed).
I finish minute or two faster than top guy (if leaderboard information is accurate), but anyway speed do not affect score almost at all, despite designer intentions.
Top guy has about 12000 points, but best I can get is about 11400.

Ah, High Speed mode, sorry, I didn't see that ^^

There are some more ways to earn points, for example if you manage to empty the complete field, you will get a points bonus ;) Of course you need some luck to be able to clean the complete field, as you need luck to get the Long one to clean 4 lines at once :D
