It'll be much harder for new people to create custom gametypes if all the base ones are locked away without the sources available, going right against the game's own selling points...[/quote]

or complete manual for creators which can provide all info they need.. (wiki info or something like that)

A simplistic, default base is a lot more difficult to learn from than a completed game mode that you already know works.

I wasn't aware competitive FPS gamers cared about something as silly as a ladder ranking.
lol, this comment made by day. I don't know in fact if it's ironic or not. The largest FPS communities such as ESL and Clanbase are based on ladder rankings. And it makes perfect sense to me: Competition gaming is about determining who is the better player, therefor you need an accurate ranking which actually reflects your skills.

I'm confused how you can be against the idea of a real ranking system such as an ELO-ranking. At the moment this game is purely casual fun (judging by the simple ladder system) and a big disappointment when you find out that you basically just have to play a lot to be on top. Shootmania advertises for being a top esport game and for the time being, it's not.

A solution to this is quite easy: Provide a ladder for every (popular) mode and let people get minus points when they play bad. People should actually drop in ranks for a bad performance and step up for a good performance. Sounds perfectly reasonable for a ladder ranking, don't you think?

When you're saying the ladder system doesn't work for shootmania all i can say is: it didn't "work" for trackmania either, at least not for those you played (or play in case of sm) the game seriously. All you see when you look at the top 10 of the world f.e. are 10 guys with a whole lot of free time but skill wise you don't know you good they really are (applies to sm as well as tm).

People which are new to the game and don't have enough knowledge to understand the ladder and ranksystem may think those must be the GODDZZ himself.

For Nadeo the system is quite good i think, mostly because of the newer ones, you might not understand the system yet. And it’s a good way for people with a lot of free time to get some sort of "fame". Basically it’s rewarding the player who plays the most. And people playing a lot is good for Nadeo. It's as simple as that.

But honestly I don't know any better rank or laddersystem myself. Mostly because I don't need one.

As I stated in my previous posts, all I'm asking for is a choice.

Give the players a choice of a skill based (ELO) ladder ranking system or a 'time played' Ladder Points system. But make it an option so the player can choose which one to view.

Joust is my gametype, its 1v1, i have NO interest AT ALL in seeing the top 12 populated with the lazy students who do sod all other than play shootmania the most. I want my top 12 Joust players to be the BEST Joust players in the world.

THAT is my incentive to BE in the top 12!!

I'm 38 and have a full time job deploying servers, I don't have lots of free time, but I have lots of skill. I want to see that SKILL rewarded, not how much time i put into the game.

I think the bigger point is that player skill has never been determined by an in game system. You'll be able to spot good players without a ranking system at all. Even if there was a more accurate ranking, being ranked high wouldn't matter as the most respect is going to be gained through ladders and tournaments. That's the only way to determine where people stand in a competitive fps. Your example supports that.
