lol, this comment made by day. I don't know in fact if it's ironic or not. The largest FPS communities such as ESL and Clanbase are based on ladder rankings. And it makes perfect sense to me: Competition gaming is about determining who is the better player, therefor you need an accurate ranking which actually reflects your skills.
I'm confused how you can be against the idea of a real ranking system such as an ELO-ranking. At the moment this game is purely casual fun (judging by the simple ladder system) and a big disappointment when you find out that you basically just have to play a lot to be on top. Shootmania advertises for being a top esport game and for the time being, it's not.
A solution to this is quite easy: Provide
a ladder for every (popular) mode and
let people get minus points when they play bad. People should actually drop in ranks for a bad performance and step up for a good performance. Sounds perfectly reasonable for a ladder ranking, don't you think?
