The Ladder Points system does not work for Shootmania

As it stands now, the Ladder Points system does not work.

Basically, the Ladder Points system simply rewards 'time played' rather than skill.

When i look at the leader boards, I want to see who the best players are, not the ones who don't have jobs and families and can play all day every day.

I've never seen a scoring system that rewards a player in the top ten, points for beating a player ranked 100 places lower.... :roll: :shock: :?

This is the fact in tm as well, the ladder is more of a motivation for new players.

Thats wrong imho.

The whole purpose of a ladder is to to rank skill

Imagine the WBO ranking boxers by fights foughts rather by who they actually fought and whether they won or not......

Imagine any sport where the world no.1 was not the best player, but just the guy who played the most....

Shootmania is not TrackMania, what works for one may not work very well for the other

I am suggesting something better. A ladder scoring system that ranks players by skill.....

Did you not get that from the very tone of my opening statement??

Do you want me to design the ranking system for them?

additional thoughts.

1. (probably wont be implemented as would require additional coding hours)

Make 2 scoring systems:
LP - ladder points (rewarded essentially for time played) casual players

SP - Skill Points (rewarded purely based on skill, wins/loses and ranking position) for competitive modes such as Joust and elite and Heroes modes. Based on one of the skill scoring algorithms listed in my previous post.

Allow ME the paying customer which scoring system i want to use as my default view in each gametype (or default Storm to LP and Elite, Joust and Heroes to SP)

This game was advertised and hyped from the very beginning to be THE best thing in esports and competitive FPS gaming for many years. How many Competitive FPS Gamers want to see a ranking system based on time played??......

if you really crying about LP + time ok (but i dont support that) ... but i actually somehow think you are crying about Royal mode....
and thats the thing i have to support... because its the most played mode (on Storm) due to high LP gain for SURVIVAL points and pole captures not for frags.... i think theese are things that should be nerfed... but you cant nerf them because they are in scripts which players can edit... IF ROYAL WOULD BE LIKE ELITE ( YOU CAN NOT EDIT SCRIPT) and points for survival got nerfed it would be balanced... and so on with other modes...but if players can edit them.. then this will continue 4EVA

imho... if you get LP ONLY FOR FRAGS youre LP = youre skill in my opinion... but there will be no motivation for capturing or anything else... so only way to go is balance modes and restrict editing them....but then who and how will make new modes... from 0? (no code copy or anything..) - maybe some deafult code from you can just copy essential lines ...

EDIT : now it hitted me... if you dont have script. how you will start a server with certain game mode...only thing that come up is that you make script.GBX or something like that from scripts that ppl will send you on maniapark so txt will not be accesible for common players - just for creator and Moderator which can edit mode so it will be balanced (> official mode updates + nadeo can control modes..)

its beta and i hope this can change till release.. now its like if you wanna real farm of points you just go to royal and survive as long as you can.... < sux


BTW YOURE IDEA NEEDS TO CHANGE REALLY LOOOT OF THINGS.... mine just edit scripts, and edit maniapark a bit...

I wasn't aware competitive FPS gamers cared about something as silly as a ladder ranking.

It'll be much harder for new people to create custom gametypes if all the base ones are locked away without the sources available, going right against the game's own selling points...

I thought the ladder system worked the way it was supposed to :?

If you score better than someone with a higher rank, you get more points.

Obviously since it's still in beta there's not as many people playing, and the LP system is dependent on a large, active player base to work at all.

I played TM matches where I'd get huge amounts of LP for playing higher ranks and placing well, compared to zero LP when I finish on top of lower ranks.

I think it makes sense.
