Yeah, agree with you. However, I have been very much involved in the TM community for the past 4-5 years and I find it strange (and a little embarrassing) that I never heard of it. Did most teams know about it/use it?

On TMU, i guess almost all the big teams know ET and most of them play ET tournaments.

- To found a team you have to spend 2000cc (or whatever the mania planet currency will be) to get it.
- Each member has to pay 100cc to join.
- Each war against other clans would cost 200cc + 50*each player participating.
- Each time could buy an inventory for 800cc where tracks, skins, avatars would be kept.
^ The inventory could have levels, each level costing more cc
^ The intial level would only offer space for skins, them avatars, then tracks etc etc eventually team news.
- Adding a track to the team's inventory would cost 80cc to the player.
- Adding a skin to the teams inventory would cost 75cc
- Sending out a message to all members of the team would cost 150cc to the team

With this system, each team have to get coppers before to play a tournament. For a team who really want to play tournaments, it means less time remaining for competition (thus, less fun, less competition activity, not really the best wish of any competitor).

I think the biggest mistake of ET is to neglect the advertisement, no wonder if you've never heared about them. They could ask for a copper-tax to play their competitions in order to afford a huge advertisement in the game homepage, but i don't really like such a kind of virtual financialization of the TM-Activity. Maybe in the long run we'll have to find a TM-job in order to provide for our daily TM-needs. It could be better (and free ^^) to have an ET thread in every important TM forum. Same for ESL.

The problem is that competitions are also a kind of network. If you're in the network, you know all what happens, if you're not, it seems it doesn't even exist...

So if the '- Each war against other clans would cost 200cc + 50*each player participating.' was removed? Then only the initial 2000 would have to be spent, which wouldn't take much time. All it shows a little commitment, which all teams should have.

Why the need to charge people for anything? It won't solve the problem of teams being created and then abandoned. And thanks to the links we have made through competitions organised by ESL and ET, my team knows of lots of other teams we can go and challenge for a friendly race for free. Other teams know about our team through the same competitions, by our servers, and by our player's presence in other online servers.

I don't want to be negative as I can see that you are trying to do something for the community, but maybe you need to start smaller, or target certain types of teams - help new players find a team, or start their own, give them a place to meet - or organise a competitions with a copper entry prize - and go from there.

Nothing will. Charging people makes it more realistic and forces the team to work together to put a few cc together to be able to participate. But in any case, that's not my main suggestion of this thread, it was just a side note.

What we are talking about is the first page:

My ideal case would have been a forum thread/site/info section/in game page where there was a list of all the official teams in TM, with lots of details about it such as:

- Team Name
- Team Founder/s
- Founded date
- Number of members
- Team objectives
- Moderators
- Contact info
- External links
- Competitions participated in
- Competitions won/lost
- Server names/links
- Catch line
- Membership application rules

I think that this system would help everyone, both new players and old, but more importantly brings people into the community (reasons I have already said on the first page) which after all, is what Maniaplanet is all about

Have a look here - this is the project that Oliverde8 started called tm-teams.com. It might be that you could use this as a start if he would allow it and does not plan to carry it on himself. He's a member (and mod I think) on this forum so it might be worth a PM.

Ity is a different concept to the one you suggest, but the TM-forum thread will give you some ideas of the problems. If you do decide to take this forward, then good luck, and I'm sure I can get Digital Racers to register (at some point )!

I hope that Nadeo works on making teams important and maybe they can implement a competition system for teams into the game. I think you need to re-read this thread - teams do compete all the time, both in TMUF and TMNF. Some competitions are very high-level, and have relay servers with many players watching. Team rankings are hard to organise and Nadeo have already stated that they do not want to implement something that the community can provide for itself.

This is a very interesting topic that I thought alot about before.

As we can see, there has been alot of efforts in making pages with rankings and overview of teams, transfers, etc. (tm-rankings as the most successfull one) The big problem is that most updates had to be done manually, and the motivation of a few eager persons cant hold such a big project alive for a longer period.

So, the ideal project would be a mixture between userbased and automated updates, but with a few admins to check over if the information is correct (in the important changes). But the next problem appears: Inactivity and lazy updaters. Well, simple solution: Any team staying inactive for over 6months = deleted / archived (if no changes, but still active team: a login + confirmation of active status is needed).

In this way, the teams that whished to be a part of the page/community and advertise with their lineup, achievements, homepages, sponors, etc, would have to update the team regularely themselves. By creating this user-interactive page, we could also add automated modules that would catch all the changes like latest player changes, clanless players searching teams, latest achievements, new organisations, tournaments, and so on.

The imagination sets no limits, BUT!! Getting a proper page coder / designer is usually THE limit for a project to start/last. So if you are reading this and have experience with coding/designing, please! Make use of yourself, and I would even be willing to pay money to set up this system, because I think this is something the community needs very badly! contact me on mail peterdude-at-live-dot-no for more talk. Same goes for other interested that would like to be a part of/contribute to a new _working_ project!

EDIT: I was thinking about TM teams firstly, but the page could ofc be seperated in TM/TM2 in a sensible way when the time comes.

In addition, there are lots of cups ran by ESL too, and lots of other contests and competitions ran by different clans. I guess this really goes to show that we need to advertise these competitions a lot more successfully in the future to make sure that all the teams out there hear about the opportunities available to them...

Maybe one webpage that keeps a list of all the current and upcoming competitions would be useful. If it worked closely with the big tournament organisers then it could keep up to date and provide a single place for a team to go and see what contests are there for them to compete in. That'd be rather useful, I imagine.

I don't think that pay to do a match is a good idea. I really don't like it.

Each player can play to TrackMania² as he want. If two teams want to organize a match just for fun, why pay ? there are serious players, and players who play just to having fun and don't care about the result.

Now, I think that an official listing of teams could be nice.
