I'm trying to be constructive, so I hope I haven't just pissed a bunch of people off.
It's been said a thousand times in the SM forum too, it's confusing and annoying.
I can kind of live with it for the moment (for more than two years now actually), coming from TM myself, but it's really gotta go all this mixed terminology.
Demented wrote:Also, how many people have quit playing TM to switch over to SM? A lot I suspect.
Quite a handful that's true, but I think the reason for this happened 3 years ago and todays development doesn't effect it too much anymore.

Let's be honest, Canyon is not quite the awesome envi people hoped for, when TM² was coming. It's fun, I bought it, but Stadium is simply a way superior envi. I played TMF Stadium for years, but it just got old, the bugs were just so darn annoying I didn't wanna deal with that crap anymore. Canyon just bored me right away and there were actualy no features in TM² that made it any better than TMF (at least back then).
So I stuck with TMF for a while until SM came around the corner and I switched the game. Other people did play Canyon for the time being, but then changed over to SM, because, I think, Canyon just doesn't have to grip people for as long as Stadium did (doesn't apply to everyone, we're talking the masses here).
Some SM players started playing some Stadium again, when it was brought to MP.

Long story short, I think it's TM's fault that people stopped playing TM, not any other game, even though MP should finally honour that most people don't wanna be bothered by the other game while playing their favourite...

What would have been the right move with TM² to begin with, is a proper successor envi to Stadium. One that is as varied, as easy to start with, but as hard to master as Stadium. One without a huge load of bugs and with some features that definitely make it a better envi than the original Stadium.
That would have gotten all the attention of the TMF players back then and really translated that hype to a bigger playerbase.

That's my opinion though...

I agree with you UrinStein. Canyon is easy to access, but it starts to lack depth after six months/a year of intensive playing, especially as a stand alone envi it offered too less for long term success.
With valley and stadium we got more diversity going, but valley turned out to have a very flat gameplay on the roads, which you fully understood after 1min of playing and master very quickly...
Just dirt is a bit more deep due to it's randomness

From which environment? Stadium's dirt isn't random. Played that for 3 years.

Valley's dirt.
It's not entirely random, I agree, but feels very strange and not motivating to drive.
Besides that building it with the overlay is a pain. So I always just mix it

I love Valley dirt (much more than roads). And I also to like ice now. It's difficult at the beggining but funny.

I think small Canyon roads are not easy. I haven't seen the lack of depth in TM² environnements. But i can see servers with PF tracks, concrete and circuit blocks. No roads in canyon, no dirt in Valley :( It"s a little the same in PMC. Now we can find smalle roads in Canyon but at the beggining it was only straight roads  . Same in PMC Valley where dirt roads aren't very popular...

To return to the topic, I think with the demo Nadeo give the community the tool to make the game popular. But it's a "word of mouth" strategy. So you shouldn't ask to Nadeo to make the game popular but you should ask to the community (or the part of the community who want more players) to be more active to promote the game.

A lot of people ask for a demo and write it's THE solution. We got it. You can dream for advertisement but it cost money. Better to try the viral marketing way if you want a more popular game ;) You can be active in this strategy :pil

Instead of creating this kind of topics that don't change nothing and are created every months, maybe we should create weekly events (as Soprah suggested in an other topic) and each week = a new gamemode is presented.

I really believe on these kinds of events that could unite peoples around a gamemode. Imagine a server like the fB weekly race with lots of players :D
