(formerly coppers) planets are also used to protect our servers from spamming and attacks.
I don't know why it costs exactly 100 planets but I think it's because it's a heavy download, eating a lot of bandwidth.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but you can update the game you downloaded from the seller?
I believe the download on the player page is a kind of backup for the player (but maybe I'm wrong, I'm no specialist on that subject)

oh, and I wouldn't be surprised that the amount of planets you receive at first launch contains those 100 planets.

Another way:
When you open the game and it's updating there's a link at the top of the screen that says Forum (I think).
Go to that link and you can download the installer from that topic with no planets cost. I had to do that because the update process wasn't working right and the download was currently unavailable from my player page (was reasonably early in the morning here, may have been still uploading or something).

I haven't got an email either, however I'm pretty darn sure they were updating the build in the link they give you to download in the original email they sent you when you bought beta access, so if you download again from the email you were sent when you bought the beta you'll probably get the release build.
And yeah, that woud be why they didn't send another email.

Even if not like I said they do give you a link to a page with a free download when you start the game.

After digging through my emails to find the purchase one from the maniaplanet site, I downloaded it again. It seems to be updated, if the retail build is version 1.3.0.0.

It may be wise of Nadeo to maybe put a sticky up for people that pre ordered and wanted a retail build installer to download it from the original sale email you received, if you purchased it from maniaplanet. No where that I've seen, does it state you can download it again from the email. Even the email doesn't mention to use it to download again.
