@Keras: So you would prefer a server with challenging tracks and drivers, that is rather small (<30 Players)?
What about a server with deactivated ladder? Does it matter to you (as you said you are not after LPs).

30 players would be a large server for me actually^^ I usually play on servers with less than 10 people on it. But of course I would like it if more people would play on those servers but I cant do anything about it.
And since I said I dont care about LP it obviously wouldnt matter for me if the ladder was deactivated (never noticed any server with deactivated ladder though).
PS: Just in case you look me up somewhere and wonder why I still got an online rank of about 1000: Sometimes I too drive on a server with 50+ players and get about 300 LP every race xD

I just don't know why racers persist with bad tracks on a popolar servers (LP hunters ?) . Or is it that everyone else is there ?
For me to answer the OPs question "What makes a good server in your eyes?" ... well a server with awesome ppl that i can chat to , make fun , have fun without worrying how many LPs u going to win..
And of couse have decent easy online tracks... leave the extreme ones for solo.

I actually like laps servers (or is it called "rounds"? the ones with a warmup and then X number of laps head to head). They reward consistent driving, and necessarily have tracks that are easy to finish so you can focus on the race. The fact that you actually race against other drivers in real time helps a lot, both to improve and for the competitive aspect.
My God is a vengeful God.

EnaiSiaion:
Rounds Servers also can have hard tracks.
But of course easy tracks will be accepted by a wider range of drivers.
What about those things like TPS Gaseco?
Do you like this idea?

Re: What makes a good server in your eyes?
My friends and I have taken a break from WoW for about a year. Some of us haven't even bought cataclysm, we decided we couldn't take the games community anymore, it was just too frustrating to deal with and ruined the fun for us. That having been said, we were wondering if there are any servers out there with good communities, where the friendly players outweigh the l33t dudes or just the overall jerks on the server. We prefer an RP server just because it tends to be a friendlier server, but we haven't played in so long we aren't even sure if a good server community exists.
Re: What makes a good server in your eyes?
I can assure you in the ATC RPG server there is definately the community that I and many other players enjoy. We have fun with all different types of players (all skills) but that doesn't make it any less fun
Come join the server some time, we are usually in the top 5 on Canyon

Re: What makes a good server in your eyes?
Funny how everybody mentions that the map selection is important, how they want challengnig maps, no lol maps etc. Yet nobody drives on my server ^^
For me, a good server must have :
- Respawnable maps
- maps with no cuts
- variable time limit
- admins that know their maps and delete stuff when cuts are found
- no lol
- not only noslide maps
- a healthy mix of challenging and fun tech tracks
If you agree to all this, Mistral is the server to be
But whenever I log in, I see people on the same shitty servers. No offence to those I am thinking about, but some of the most popular servers have had the same beta tracks for months, they are almost entirely noslide-oritntated, known cuts are not removed etc etc. But they give good ladder points, and everybody who wants ladder points just goes to the server with most people. You can finish 35th out of 50 on a piss easy lol track and still get more ladder points than when you win a hard technical 1:15 track against 5 other players. Just because quantity > quality.
It's depressing, to be honest. I hope that people will get bored of the stupid ladder point farming one day. If you are looking for maps that challenge you and that actualy make you learn how to drive better, if you are looking for tracks that look impossible at first but still give a rewarding feeling 5 minutes later, come join me on Mistral

Re: What makes a good server in your eyes?
I think you've all pretty hit the nail on the head
... ( ... and I have no interest in LP either)
We are trying to establish a server on TM2 with the same qualities as our TMN/TMU. We are a 'dirt' team so finding the right type of tracks on TM2 is quite a hard task but we have got something in mind and at the moment we are frantically searching and testing tracks that have that certain 'Yeah. I enjoyed that' factor. Our ages range from below 10 to over 60 years of age.
We've been on TMN/TMU now for near 3 years and we like to class ourselves as a good, family friendly server by using the following server/team qualities which we also want to try and set up here on TM2.
Qualities
The server must be family friendly to all ages and abilities. If you must cuss then say it, don't type it, there could be children playing
Tracks are usually mainly dirt, well signposted and around 1.45 mins long although length is flexible. In 'Rounds' mode, all tracks MUST be able to be finished if you crash, from ANY and ALL CPs. We do also have a TA server where the tracks are a little more difficult but still fullfill our conditions.
Cheats, hackers, racists, spammers, overland 'cutters'(illegal) and players who abuse other players or have obvious abusive/racist/porno usernames/avatars, are warned first and then kicked if our warning go unheeded. If they come back on with the same attitude then they get banned (family server). The sounding of horns all around the track is also discouraged
Plugins and widgets are kept to a minimum so as not to clutter up the screen and the karma is kept simple.
Well thats my 2 cents worth
If anyone knows where I can find a server like this on TM2 then tell me. Meanwhile, we will carry on with our TM2 project
(well done to Master Admin Oakens on hid efforts
)
