ManiaHome, ManiaPub, ManiaSpace are likely to be better examples of what I meant
If we need to put a core variable and make it accessible to the various players usage, it is more in the spirit than developing the features around it. I think you see what I mean.

So if i understand right, there will be some sort of registration for teams (or groups) in the game, but a teamladder or other functionality is up to the community?

I don't say there will be, but if we would approach this question, we would more offer some connectors for the community to make clan features instead of making them ourselves. Clan is too expert and diverse to be wholly defined. If we have time, we would do a feature or two, but I think it would be better to have it a little open. For exemple, I would rather say that each clan can have it's own manialink adress, but I am not sure that we should define too much the structure to be founded at this address.

That sounds sensible, but you took an easy example - a clan can easily make their own manialink in whatever structure. But the community cannot make a global team ladder for example, since that needs the Nadeo master server. I see your point but for something like clans, it needs built-in support in some core parts that players can't modify such as the dedicated server app or Nadeo's server. It depends on the features you'd want for it too, of course.

Agree with zooz.
A clan managment system can be coded by the community, but the offical connection to a "possible" team ladder needs to be implemented by the coders.

I think that maniazones groups are already good, but some things are actually missing :

- a manialink entry in the groups config.
- a way to set a preferred group, which would be considered as the player team (and indicated in the player's TeamName on dedicated infos, so it could be used when playing, for team chat, eventually initial team-gamemode assignation, etc.). With maniaplanet it would be good to set the preferred group separately by game because a player can potentially not be in the same team on the 3 games.
- the preferred group should be changeable (i mean picked into the player's already joined groups list) very easily/quickly in the game (or in some general manialink), so that groups could be used for occasionnal competitions etc.
- some way for scripts (server and manialinks) to get preferred/groups/players infos

For a worldwide teamladder you need more informations, than for a clanladder.
So maybe it's good,if Nadeo gives the access for such informations to some good coders of the community. Then they could make a cool teamladder and would be able to add usefull things or delete not so usefull informations. Then Nadeo could integrate it at some places, where the players can't(the maniaplanet menu for example)

I think zooz meaned the same, as far as I understood him ;)

The only function i would need ingame is the example of the clantag and a possibility to add/delete members.
All the other stuff can be done by servercontrollers and clan-websites. And for the idea of notifications in game: No, i want members to be active. So the need to be involved in the clan. Presenting everything on a dish (its a dutch quote  ) would not have that effect.
If a registered clan could exist (and possibly clantag) this could be handled like the news now is handled by country moderators. Only one transition problem - who are the founders of the existing clans and how do you check....

You need to understand that not everyone enjoys using forums or websites and never intend to, anyway in-game notifications would be helpful still, not everyone checks forums all the time and if they check it early in the day and the clan plans an event half way through the day why should they be excluded ?

Everyone wants their clan to be active but i seriously doubt your way is anyway to do it, it might work for some players but not everyone, aslong as they play the game actively what does it matter how much they check the forums/website.
